Inspired by FoME's own idea, "Where Parallel Lines Converge", really, this thread is.

For example, though I suck as a Blue player, let alone three-colors involving Blue as one of them, I'm a fan of both the inventive Izzet League and the authoritative Azorius Senate. I also like the ghoulish Golgari Swarm, but that has no Blue.

This is just a "for fun" thread, in which one gives some idea that comes to mind.

For example, silly alternate reason (besides lack of screen time) Blueblood is never seen all that much.

Planeswalker of the Blue/White or White/Black variety, one could jest. *shrug* Or even White/Green. Character isn't given much personality until the comic in which he saved a negotiation that Shining Armor botched. ... Maybe go middle-ground with Black/Blue? Ultimate free will, Black selfishness, Blue's desire for progress... If he can cheerfully play those Bisons like fiddles to calm them down, why not, right?

Okay then, with reveal of more spoilers, I have another idea, scary as it is, of a story.

Such trauma, nearly losing yourself to the mind of a greater being.... more than enough trauma as your body warps and spasms and attempts to meld with the bodies of others into an eldritch ooze, to lose yourself in that agony, give in to Her will just to escape it...

Also, surely enough for another citizen of Innistrad to ignite his or her spark and accidentally Walk.

With that, this being, this once-mortal has escaped Her will... but not Her grasp upon its body. Still, the Eldrazi are an amorphous sort... once this being gets the hang of it, surely it would be a simple matter to reconstruct one's mass into a new shape, even if the Mana it devours from the Plane causes it to gravitate to something greatly unlike its previous face.

There IS that fad of Lyra Heartstrings being a monstrous being in AUs... why not a traumatized benevolent one? Bad Powers, Good People, as the trope goes.

It sounds more like you've found a way to fit Thingpone into an FiMtG crossover, though the Lyra connection is an interesting one.

5321843 At the very least, sitting slouched like a human could be an unconscious habit of sorts. *shrug*

That said, it'd still out-there, I can very well admit. I'm just kinda stuck in my head of the idea of such a Planeswalker needing a mentor as well...

Derpy, you up for it? XD

5321843 The weirdness! It refuses to leave my mind!

IT BETRAYS like that Eldrazi from Rise! XD

Pain pain pain pain pain pain pain pain!

It hurt, We hurt, I hurt!!

One'mrakul.
We'mrakul.
I'mrakul.

Free free free! We had to get free! I had to get free!

As one, many mouths screeched into the tainted night that had befallen Innistrad, belonging to a writhing mass so warped that could not even be called flesh anymore. This body of putrid pinks and tentacled blue seemed to turn upon itself, claws erupting from this amorphous thing and scratching around wildly.

Free! Free! FREE!!

Golden-yellow eyes opened, and the world around vanished with a sickening "pop" reverberating through the immediate air, somehow echoing across the hundreds screaming masses as they lost themselves to Her will.

The mass... breathed...

Clarity. The voices of many had stopped. Her pressing will upon its mind seemed less than even a distant whisper.

Relief. We knew relief. I knew relief.

The entity ceased its mad throes as that clarity drew it to realization. The other minds that had been around... they were silent... dead. This one's mind... it was either all of theirs at once, some brand new entity, or... or it was what remained of what had once been of a lost child whom once dreamed of clergyhood in service to Avacyn.

But she remembered. Avacyn... why had she betrayed them? Why... why had she become this horrid, twisted thing? Somehow, those many gilded eyes were able to spill tears as the mass examined her new claws. They were massive, like swords and scythe-blades... and she hated her new self. She supposed... though she was a child, had been a child, being lost in the melding of herself, many other children, and many grown-ups, had driven her beyond a child's thinking...

A gasp from behind drew a fear-filled reaction, and the creature turned and struck before even knowing what it was doing.

Half-a-dozen eyes went wide upon seeing the shredded remains of what, until just seconds ago, had been one of the prettiest little foals they had beheld, as her old self or in this shape.

5321996
Yeees. Take the idea. Build it. Refine it. Publish it.

Write'mrakul. :pinkiecrazy:

5322009 Srsly? XD

The presentation was that inviting?

I just see her using the corpse of the foal as a shell, really, literally pouring herself into it, filling it, becoming it, Thing-style.

Only it's because the Child-Minded Horror, as I dub its "creature" card, feels the little foal will be missed by its mommy and daddy. After all, these things can see into minds and affect them... of course she would want to see it alive in some form, and use gained knowledge to act like a child again, to enjoy life sharing body with this foal.

Of course, what would this Lyra Heartstrings's card be called? XD

Pone'murkal? :moustache:

5322016
If you do a flip-walker, I suggest "Spawn of Hanweir" or "The Child-Minded Horror" for the creature side and "Lyra, Equine Vessel" for the 'walker side. Me being me, I'm already trying to come up with suitable mechanics. :derpytongue2:

5322009 Of course, found an image via Ghibli that almost perfectly fits the shape of the Child-Minded Horror.

5322024 Go ahead! XD

5322024 It occurs just how silly the awkward conversation would be between Lyra and Derpy in this scenario.

"So... you're not going to devour the world?"

"... I don't think it could fit in my stomach," Lyra snarked. "Besides," she suddenly broke out in a grin. "I got friends like Twilight and Bon Bon!"

5322230
"So... you're a horrific blob of biomatter who assimilates other organisms and takes on their forms."

"I don't know if I'd go with 'horrific,' but yes."

"And you're not from Ravnica."

"I'm not even sure where that is."

"If you did, you'd understand my confusion."

5322243 heh.

"Also, I only did it for this body because I accidentally killed her... I was scared."

5322243

"I mean, I wasn't always a tentacle-covered blob..." Lyra then paused, looking thoughtful. "... I can remember one of my lives very strongly. I was a little girl, dreaming of joining my Mama in the clergy, serving the angels... Papa had been missing since I was tiny, but Avacyn brought him back as a big doggy man.... a 'wolfir', they called it." Her head tilted the other way. "... I think a bunch of people I'm made of used to be a militia, maybe?" She smacked her lips together, testing that word, maybe, on her tongue. "Other kids..." Then, she faced Derpy Hooves again. "It's kind of all... jumbled together. I've come to terms with it for the most part, though. Had something to do with this... thing... kept whispering... Rachel. I think that was its name?" She really didn't sound all too sure.

((Eh, that came out too casual, considering the subject-matter.

5322334
If it's late enough in the conversation where she feels comfortable about it, it could work. Especially if she's working through the trauma by way of fond nostalgia. Though having her trail off when the town starts to go crazy isolationist and people start sprouting tentacles might be advisable.

5322338

Fair enough.

I'm just picturing the panic on both sides when they find out exacting WHAT Lyra is. I mean the actual term for it, too. There was much trouser-soiling.

5322341
Which surprised both of them, as neither had been wearing trousers until that point. :raritywink:

5322345 XD

... I just pictured something... canon-violating.

Tirek getting eaten by The Child-Minded Horror/Spawn of Hanweir.

Brutally.

And ponies get to see him wither away to dust as even his own magic is eaten.

"... Spicy."

5322347
You already made Lyra into an amorphous horror from beyond the stars. I don't think you need to worry about violating show canon.

Of course, that scene would require an Eldrazi to regurgitate consumed magic. Depending on when she eats Tirek, all the magic in the Equestria might come with him.

5322357 Burps it out.

"Ooh... I don't feel so good..."

5322357

... That would be actually pretty damn hilarious. Lyra, in full horrifying form, bed-ridden from over-eating and vomiting out the "magic" part of her meal that used to be Tirek.

"... Hi, Bon Bon," the six-eyed creature let out, staring weakly at the visibly hesitant Earth Pony by her... seven beds she took up.

5322395
Cue the hardest moment in Secret Agent Sweetie Drops's life:

"I don't what you are. I don't know what you did with my best friend."

"Bonnie, we both know that—"

"Shut up! You're a hideous monster who just ate an even worse monster and you're so obviously Lyra it hurts and I..."

Lyra spread about a dozen limbs. "Come here."

Bon Bon leaned into the hug and weeped. If her coat was a bit shorter afterwards, neither said anything.

5322442 lol. Because of the Angels, I also see her cowering behind Bon Bon when Celestia visits.

5322579
Possibly reciting the prayer from Always Watching without realizing it.

5322586 Indeed. XD

Can't blame Lyra for being scared, though. *pause* And it's a good thing neither her not Derps have been to New Phyrexia... A random tangent, but a planes walking Phyrexian Eldrazi is a whole combo-platter of terror.

5322586 Ooh! Imagine Lyra visiting Starlight's village!

"... Ookay... Creepy cult. That's vaguely familiar." Lyra paused, and then grimaced as one of her distorted memories passed through her mind. "I don't like it."

Also, what do you believe are the colors for this musician (lyre cutie mark, after all) to bear in her mortal and maybe even true form (if Devoid otherwise)? I mean, I keep seeing an artistic and progressive blue/white. Maybe a benevolent Blue/Green or Blue/Black? Or even Green/Black?

I want to see Black for her value of self as an individual... but White for her ideals of helping her "fellow" pony. Blue, however, has the roots in deception and Shapeshifters... While Green is, Hanweir aside, oft associated with Oozes.

Possibly a Devoid Blue/Blue with a white splash. As a whole, values her free will, her sense of self, which Blue/Black is the THE color combo for, as well as deception and schemes.

Plus, admittedly I like the idea of her dabbling into illusions and spirits. *shrug*.

5322719
I'm surprised you never considered red, the color of rebelling against authority, passionate independence, and creative expression. Lyra splitting herself off from the writhing township wasn't calculated self-interest but a gut reaction. I'd say blue-red, in all of its hypercreative quasisanity, would be a great fit for her.

5323184 True. I just didn't want to retread ground with colors. I thought Derpy was Blue-Red.

Still, if Derpy was livid about the village of Our Town, Lyra would be downright horrified in the situation of her visiting instead. She has many jumbled memories of the last time she saw a totalitarian cult.

... She'd also be miffed about being Eldrapy's mouth piece via worm-like spawn.

"... Never do that again, Derpy. Please. I... I don't like that."

5323184

In an alternate timeline, though (Heh, Time-Shift Planar Chaos):

"..." Lyra slowly blinked, her mental magic having no issue prying into the minds of those around her, and her true nature making the matter all the more trivial. She could imagine herself, reaching out with dozens out of hundreds of slime-slathered blue tentacles to touch their grey matter.

And she felt their fear. They were terrified of themselves, of their Cutie Marks, of... of this leader, this Starlight Glimmer than kept popping up in their minds. They didn't want to disappoint her, nor suffer consequences for it.

She also felt the outside influence on their minds via the artificial things on their flanks, and that feeling drew her to release a guttural growl. That sensation... she remembered it all too well, and the pain that came with it, all those years ago. Nopony could forget those whispers, crawling into one's own brain to subjugate it to another's will.

"... I hate this..." she muttered out.

"I'm... I'm sorry?" Party Favor seemed to be restraining a gulp, his unnaturally large grin becoming more tense.

--

Also, I imagine her signature spell being good ol' Brutal Expulsion, or some Overload spells after learning tricks from the mighty Derps. Devoid, Blue-Red, can think of it as purging something unnatural from their bodies, brutally. XD

5323202
Ditzy's sort of like Ajani in being primarily one color but able to make good use of others. In her case, it's primarily blue with white and red aspects.

I do like Brutal Expulsion flavored as a sort of aggressive immune response.

5323254

"I swear, I only meant to purge the foreign magic!" were the words Lyra greeted her equine mentor with as Derpy Hooves flew down to the quaint community of Our Town.

The townsfolk all looked like they got hit by runaway carts. No scratches on them, but the magical impact could be seen on them. They weren't having fun.

--

In that case, Lyra would lean more to Red, then take aspects from Blue and White, I suppose...? She doesn't empower others like Ajani does. I guess Red-Blue would be best...

... There's only a hand full of White Eldrazi, if I recall...

5323255
Sounds right to me. Though given that, I can't help but think of Numot...

"I'm not mad," said Ditzy. "I'm just disappointed."

Lyra just smiled sheepishly in the middle of the patch of striated filaments that used to be a field of wildflowers. The belch didn't help.

5323256

XD

Of course, just imagine the physical back-lash on Glimmer. I mean.. that earlier scene, I'd imagine Lyra would be excited to find she can actually talk in her monstrous form (having never even tried previously) and worried what would happen to Bon Bon/Sweetie Drops by just touching her, especially once she finds out the very nature of what she is.

"... Lyra, if just being around you was going to turn me into a horrible horror, then it would have happened years ago when we first become friends, you dummy."

I mean, with the scene just now, that second effect has to go somewhere to show the physical damage from the expulsion spell. Poor Starlight Glimmer in that case. And because it's single-target... she likely cast it multiple times.

5323256 Now the question to ask is...

What KIND of Red magic is her specialty?

I mean, Jace with Blue is a Illusionist in specialty, even if he can jack-of-all-trades all Blue magic. Liliana is a Necromancer, but can cast life-draining spells and so forth, not just bring forth undead servants as zombies or spirits to fight for her. And she, with the Veil, DID curse Garruk. Nissa and Koth are both specialists in willing the very world around them to fight off threats. Chandra just roasts foes, fire, not lightning. Gideon is a lock-down man and a ridiculously powerful survivor. Tamiyo accesses great knowledge. Ajani, his Vengeant state aside (love that card) is a spiritual buffer of comrades.

All that stuff.

So what would fit Lyra Heartstrings, Red-Devoid Planeswalker, The Hidden Horror, the Vessel of Devastation, the Thing from Another World? XP Yes, I know what I typed for that last part.

5323293
If I had to guess, either emotion or chaos magic, transmitting the feel of music or warping things in the most interesting ways. Or, in theory, both, which would basically make her a shoggoth. Or the G1 Smooze.

5323298 Er... how would that translate into canon cards? *blink*

Now, don't get me wrongs. She's an Eldrazi Horror. She'll likely have Eldrazi Spells... but I'm asking for non-Eldrazi Red spells... because most part I'm familiar with brief buffs, Tormenting Voice, and things such as Mark of Mutiny and Act of Treason. And Burns. LOTS o' Burn Spells. And Haste, like Fervor.

5323301
Ah. Emotion magic is easily translated into Act of Treason effects, power pumping, and when coupled with white, life gain. Chaos magic gives is fun cards like Chaos Warp, coin flip effects, entropy-induced artifact and land destruction, and, at the risk of tooting my own horn, possibly cards that use my homebrewed chaotic mechanic.

5323307 ... I just pictured something scary. The last-ditch attack, a spell that can screw over everybody involved in the duel...

And I forgot the name of it.

It basically clears your hand and field of all cards and reduces life totals to 1.

Ditzy Doo's eyes went straight in shock. XD

5323315
That would be Worldfire.

Still, don't get too locked into attributing in-story magic to cards. You can be a lot more flexible with the effects when you're not constrained by the rules of the game.

5323318 True, true.

It gives me a skeleton to work with, though. XD

For example, one could attribute an aspect of Equalization to the recent Dampening Pulse spell, but we know there's more to it than that.

5323318

"... Oops."

Lyra spoke the word with some scorn and some regret, but overall wasn't truly that sorry, seeing the mare before her, curled up on the ground and shivering in such fright.

"... You know, while I didn't mean to hit you so hard with that assault... I'm not exactly sorry," she spat out. "This cult you had going on... I've been there before. Equality without progress?" She kicked the door shut behind her, walking over the shivering pink unicorn. "I'm the result of where such a thing leads, Starlight Glimmer... and it's not pretty."

The flesh around her face began to crack like porcelain.

"Not one bit."

Starlight Glimmer screamed upon witnessing the horror beneath equine flesh.

It occured to me that Emrakul's "I will be all" bit could be considered a WUB motivation. Progress through assimilation of all into Her single mind, Her single being, selfish in that regard.

5323318
Hm... I think I don't know what I'm doing. This is just the "single-color" version.

2RR
Lyra Heartstrings, the Spawn's Vessel
Planeswalker - Lyra
[+1]: Gain control of target creature until end of turn. Untap it. It has Haste and Ingest so long as you control it.
(-3): Destroy target basic land.
[-10]: Transform Lyra Heartstrings, the Spawn's Vessel into Lyra, the Benevolent Horror.
3

Dunno what the flip-side would be, and believe I made her either too strong or too weak, unless we want to consider that the real power IS on the flip-side.

5323392
Land destruction as a plus ability.

Yeah, bad idea. For now, I'd say focus on the story and build the cards from that.

5323412 Yeah, destruction IS a negative to loyalty. And it makes sense to have it be the negative, because, you destroyed it. People won't like you.

*shrug* Even so, you said you had the urge to make a card of this Lyra yesterday. I was trying my hand at it. XD

Still, as for why... would you rather the negative version completely exiles it instead, because Eldrazi? XD

5323418
Repeatable land destruction is almost never a good idea from a pure game design perspective. It's pure, condensed antifun.

5323420 True enough.

Like milling. XD

... Lyra Heartstrings, the Spawn's Vessel, in Restaurant Row. That's a scary thought in my mind, for Zesty's sake. XD I've been looking at your blogs, now.

5323439
"The plates had more flavor!"

"There's no need to exaggerate."

"I'm not. And compared to the cost of the food, paying to replace those was almost an afterthought."
