The amount of people that still believes that Bernie Sanders is a possibility is staggering. Granted, he appeals to young people (the ones that know the least of politics and understand how it works) and he tries to excuse himself with saying that he wants to use the nordic model (even though it uses both socialism and capitalism, not just socialism like he's actually going to do), but how come people don't realize that said system has never worked anywhere? It didn't worked in Chile with Allende, it didn't worked in Russia, it didn't worked in East Germany, it didn't worked here in Venezuela.

Is baffling how people doesn't understand that for socialism to work, the government must be filled with clones of Jesus (people that doesn't want corruption and is honest and trustworthy), because the socialist model cannot be efficient with any type of corrupt officials (that are pretty common in the world), specially considering that it makes corruption easier.

Again, it really saddens me whenever politicians try to advocate young people, they're trying to take the vote of the ones that understand the least. It also shows that the education system must be a priority always.

Because it's easy to fool someone by promising them what could potentially lead to be their life.

Just a bunch of young college hopefuls who don't see the larger picture.

Make college free- jack up taxes, and now it's not just college students paying more.

Besides, every one knows the candidates won't keep their election promises anyways.

I favor a Basic Income over government bureaucracy. Not only does it hugely chop down on the number of officials needed, but with no business contracts to decide on, there's little scope for corruption for those who remain. You don't hear about corruption scandals coming out of the Social Security Administration because the opportunities for that kind of behavior is lacking there.

In fairness to Bernie's college supporters though, going to college has become hideously expensive and definitely needs reform. They get railroaded into going by their parents, told they must attend or else be useless scum, and then exit with a crippling debt and no better prospects than when they entered. But having government absorb the cost would just obscure the problem. It is possible, but most European countries at least try to reduce the cost by only subsidizing the best and brightest rather than paying for everyone's post-secondary schooling.

If I ran the zoo, I'd push for a more comprehensive system of certification. Anything you can learn at college you can learn at home, but the self-educated are stigmatized because they often don't have a convenient way to demonstrate their knowledge. Fixing that would make colleges optional and making them optional would incentivize them to clean up their act or face a dearth of paying students.

Thank you all for responding, it does help a bit to understand what's going on in the US.

(About the Schools) Here in Venezuela there are public and private universities, but even public colleges have a level of autonomy (the government is trying to take all of it, but the colleges are giving the government a hard time on it and thanks to the new parliament, perhaps the control of the state over them will be fixed), that way, if you cannot afford the money for a private college (like the UCAB) you can go to a public one, that are just as good or better than the private ones (like the UCV/Central University of Venezuela and the USB/University Simón Bolívar).

Personally, I think the system in my country is good (when there isn't a corrupt government), both public universities and private ones so everybody has a chance in them.

Because he promised free stuff.

Nobody's going to get elected on the "We'll cut services and raise taxes (yes, churches too) to pay down the debt!" ticket. The only difference is which miracle the candidate in question will supposedly accomplish without cost. Bernie's got free colleges, but the Republicans can snap their fingers and make Putin go away. So hard to choose!
