One of the often discussed topics for adults in her rural, South Dakota farming community was when the “High Wire” or rural electrification lines would be built to their community. She often told me how amazed she was at how her family’s life and her community were changed after rural electrification. It would be fun to read about a returnee, who happens to be a highly skilled electrician in building and maintaining electrical grids, starts rebuilding their rural electrical grid. If a backwater, Equestrian community can have electric lights, featured in “Somepony to Watch Over Me” then so can post-Event rural communities.

I mean... Alex and Joe really built the electrical and water utilities for 2 seperate locations. Plenty of what you're looking for at the beginning of the series.
