I was looking through the census posted and I noticed that a lot of ponies already had MLP-style names. This struck me as odd, because the only pony in the original story with an MLP-style name got it through Sunset Shimmer. So, how did your character discover his/her name?

In Seattle Seapony, Cala got her pony name Calamity because of a bootstrap paradox involving another pony like Sunset Shimmer that came from Equestria.

4515136 Robin only got his (Nightwing) from Jade's teasing, and he hasn't accepted it as anything aside from a nickname. Jade's name is a legit Asian name though. In a way, it does and don't fit her. She might be a crystal pony, but she's got none of the colours jade comes in.

For my OC's, they just made it up on the spot because they had an unspoken rule of anonymity. Plus it just felt right to them.

It seems the current trend is because:
"i liek pony naems!"
