It's a tough time, living in a capitalist world. Right-wing movements are gaining popularity all over the world, and everyday life seems to grow increasingly socially reactionary. I can't even persuade people that transgender people should be accepted, let alone propose socialism and be taken seriously. People don't even consider climate change to be an acceptable issue to be concerned by. Honestly, I've just been getting really cynical and bitter in terms of politics, and it's hard to see long-term hope for the human species.

How the hell are we going to deal with this?

There isn't any large thing to do. Only what we can all do both individually or together

4974270 True my friend. Unfortunately all we can do for now is be a ray of hope.

It's not like it's the first stage of communist development or anything.

Well it's not like socialism or communism will change that...

No, but toppling Big Oil is a good start.

GASP! Kata say it ain't so! You can't be misanthropic!

I try to see the best in people. It doesn't always work, especially in everyday life.

Be a centrist and stomp down some inner idealism about shit. Worked out for me.

Once you stop thinking of trying to make shit perfect, you tend to come to terms with what you can realistically accomplish.

PS: I am not really a socialist/communist at all

This nigga right here gets it.

4974270 hah , you're bitching about all that here? just sit back and watch what happens in the world this year , i guarantee you will no longer be worried about such trivial things.....

4975200 You don't... think that FDR was a socialist, do you?

Oh look, it's all the socialists who are compatible with capitalism or something

I tried that for five or six years. Got really depressed and nihilistic. No thanks.

4975839 Trust me, I see what's coming. Yes, it will be very ugly and violent.

4976075 oh good , happy joy all around then.....

4976120 Okay, it's been a long time, but I needed a while to collect my thoughts and stay away from this website.

the Manifesto's word

Well, if you really insist on being a delusionally pedantic reader like that, I'll just leave you to it.

Look, I'm telling you that the big man himself not using the 'S' word in exactly the right context doesn't somehow allow you to tell an entrenched ideology that it has its beliefs all wrong.

Wrong! Violent revolution is the first and only step towards communism.

You do realize you just describe the split with Anarchism, what with transitioning straight into stateless society? Kronstadt, Catalonia, lots of bad blood over that. Apparently, in your view, there was no deep divide in ideology in the first place. Better tell Bakunin that he split off for nothing.

In depicting the most general phases of the development of the proletariat, we traced the more or less veiled civil war, raging within existing society, up to the point where that war breaks out into open revolution, and where the violent overthrow of the bourgeoisie lays the foundation for the sway of the proletariat.

Look, right there, the much-vaunted Dictatorship of the Proleteriat! Totally not state socialism or anything!

No, but toppling Big Oil is a good start.
But socialists don't want to do that...

Well, when you say things like that, I don't really have any choice other than to assume that you're talking about some ridiculous social democracy.

How dare I use the communist manifesto to define communism?!

Yeah, you end up with some pretty wrongheaded ideas when you base your entire conception of something off of a single pamphlet written before more than a century of ideological shift and adaptation.

so different from what Marx defined that it should be called something else entirely.

Yeah, all those liberals who never even read Smith or Mill. Ideology is totally rigid. Not like the Athenians would consider present-day government democratic.

You and your fucking strawmen.

You see, if interpreting you as meaning what you say inevitably results in constructing a strawman, it bodes pretty damn poorly for your communication skills.

4974270 since there aren't any new discussions figured i'd make another response to this older one....
this explains a lot of the broader contexts of the many things you touched on in your post....
