After reaching the palace and explaining the situation to the guards, the two captives were taken to separate holding cells and fitted with magic dampeners to prevent them from using magic to try to escape or cause any more problems.

After gathering several members of Princess Luna's Night Guard escort to act as guards for the two holding cells, Snowfall walked into the one containing Darkswirl and prepared to ask her teh questions she had been trying to for what seemed like hours now.

551131 "What do you want?" Darkswirl asked rudely, not bothering to even look up at you.

After sitting down in the chair across the table from the bound unicorn, Snowfall begins the questioning.
"So tell me, what happened to you back there during the sparring match. When you left you were acting like yourself, but after you seemed to eb a completely different pony."

551141 "Just your mind playing tricks on you. It happens to guards; it's understandable."

"playing tricks on me? Right before the fight we had, your voice changed, your ability changed, and your strength changed. You became an entirely different pony in everything but shape.

"Combine that with the fact that during the battle you claimed to have been imprisoned over 1000 years ago, and that I would warn your sister in Canterlot about you, and the ponies who believe that you were possessed by the Nightmare seem perfectly reasonable."

551168 Darkswirl lifts her head from her crestfallen gaze before staring firmly into your eyes. "She wants to talk to Princess Luna."

At hearing that, Snowfall leans back in her chair and begins tapping her hoof on the table, staring at you pensively. This is definitely a trick, but I can't tell what the angle is.

Even if she really is possessed by the Nightmare, the power she showed during our match wasn't nearly enough to be a threat to the princess. And with that magic dampener on, she wouldn't be able to use her magic anyway. Without knowing what she's hiding, there's no way of knowing what she's really capable of. I guess I have no choice but to leave this up to the Princess to decide.

Snowfall stops tapping her hoof and leans forward in her chair before standing up. "I'll be back in a bit. Whether or not the princess will talk to you, or her, or whoever, is her decision to make."

With that, Snowfall turned and walked out the door.

After what you guess to be about an hour, the door to the holding cell opens and ten members of the Night Guard, all of them unicorns, file into the room and take up positions around the walls, watching you intently. A few moments later, Princess Luna walks in followed by Commander Snowfall.

"So, you are the one..." Luna said quietly, eying Darkswirl with an eyebrow raised in cautious curiosity. "Commander Snowfall claims you are possessed by the dark spirit that once held sway over me. This is a very dire accusation," Luna finished, her tone dropping low, a clear warning that any nonsense would not be tolerated regarding this subject.

"Why do you return? Have you not caused me enough grief?" Luna's eyes grew dangerously cold as she looked into a pair of eyes that used to plague her mind so vividly, and for so long.

"Even when the world and my heart are both at peace, can you know no rest?" she asked, at last, her words carrying the frozen bite of malice.

After hearing confirmation from the Princess that the spirit possessing the unicorn was indeed the Nightmare, Snowfall discreetly nodded to the guards around the perimeter of the room, signaling them to be ready for her command should things get out of hoof.

Darkswirl, on the other hoof, was kind enough to let me stay inside her head until she could find a body suitable for me. Even during all my time with you, I never kept a single memory after I left. So much about our race is lost, but now it needs to be found again." Nightmare Moon said calmly, never once blinking as she stared back into your eyes. "Tell me, Lulu, where is mother buried, again?"

At the mention of her mother, Luna's eyes flared wide with anger, her teeth suddenly bared in a snarl that was very uncharacteristic of the usually calm Princess of the Night. Her wings shot out to her sides, and instinctual attempt at intimidation as she assumed a posture of pure hate.

"THOU HAST NO RIGHT TO ASK US ABOUT SUCH THINGS, WORTHLESS SPIRIT!" Luna roared, her voice fairly shaking the walls of the sturdy cell. Her own voice would have left her ears ringing, but she was past caring about such things. "IF IT IS REST THAT THOU DESIRES, THEN THOU SHALT FIND IT IN THE ABYSS!"

551307 Nightmare Moon snickered a bit before replying. "And why don't I? I'm you, after all. Or, at least, a part of you. And believe me, if I could have died, I would have. But both of us know that time is the only enemy of an Alicorn, and we both have plenty of that."

Turning to view the many guards that accompanied us, Nightmare Moon snorts. "So, Celestia allowed you to keep your pets even after what we did with them? Interesting..."

"If you are trying to convince us to do anything other than find a way to destroy you once and for all, you are making a very poor job of it."

"You are only the darker part of me... a part that doesn't deserve to live," Luna growled, regaining her composure somewhat. "And it is very clear that you have forgotten what it means to be an Alicorn, if you think that there is nothing for you to fear but time."

"Though they are valiant, the guards should be the least of your concerns," Luna said, her cold glare boring into Nightmare Moon's eyes. "You are a part of me, and I made you... And so I will break you."
