Changelings in that RPG can 'harvest' the strong emotions of those around them for magical power; seem like a good fit to some extent. The Changelings seem to have something of an evil fae vibe to them.between the appearance and the swapping out ponies.

So maybe they are something of a blend between shape shifters and the fea?
