First is a little doodle of a nightquill scene in the upcoming chapter, so you guys get a teaser <3
“Princess Luna?” came a quiet voice, bringing her out of her thoughts.
Immediately, a spike of rage seared through her. Rude, lowly pony, interrupting me, how DARE they–
A hoof was placed on her shoulder. “Are you alright?”
Quote. It was Quote. Luna took a deep breath, somewhat rattled. She opened her mouth to say yes.
“Did you mean it? When you said you would follow me?” Hot tears came to her aqua eyes, and she blinked them away. Why was this happening? She was loved, like her sister, so why did she feel so lonesome?
“Yes,” came the quiet, steady response.
Luna craned her neck slightly, and their horns bumped together, a gesture of comfort for unicorns. “I want to be good.”
Quote Quill lifted Luna’s head, forcing her to look up, into one of the windows and into her reflection. “Your Majesty, you are great.” 
Second one is a hypothetical nextgen child for Luna and Quote Quill because i'm trash for these two (help this story about a completely different character's origin is just turning into a shipfic) 
Absolutely fantastic. 0 objections on the new direction. Haha. Instead of splitting the reader’s focus on a sequel/alt story, you could always do a side-by-side story in the way of half chapters like a chapter 1.5, 2.5, etc to showcase these moments outside of the main plot. The more chapters you have with increased regularity the more you would increase your story’s visibility and exposure in the way of the Latest Updates section too, so it’d be a win-win without detracting from the original intent to the story.
Though you’d probably have to write it in a way to show to readers that the half-chapters are their ship-advancements and clue in any important happenstances in the actual chapter in case those who wouldn’t want to read about it could just go through the main plot by skipping them.
Choices, chapters, ships. Lovely art. Makes me wish to see more original character ponies with unique manes like the royal sisters.
