Color prompts! · 11:47pm Oct 13th, 2022
So I know that there a bunch of new users to the site. And by new, I mean those who usually sign up to be an author like sometime during the reaches of Season 7 onward, maybe you joined after the show ended, or perhaps you're like me and signed on when a user BronyStories was still doing the Rule 34 Paheal posts, updating those at least once a month with the numbers of where pony fit into the site in terms of the other franchises (yeah, I'm pretty old).
Having that said, there's probably a secret some of you may already know of about the site and it's color codes for text. And of course, I want to see if I can explore them all instead of using the usual 23 presets that they have in the color wheel. I know this is a pointless post for many, but for some who want to add a little color for their readers to not get bored with the looking at words, or dialog if you're trying to do something like text messages, chat logs, on-phone conversations, etc. However I want to point out that not everyone will be reading this on site, instead opting to download the chapters and reading them later. To those archivists, I humbly say thank you. But for everyone else here, let's start with our usual 23 prompts.
Light Grey (#cccccc). Grey (#aaaaaa). Grey (#888888). Grey (#666666). Dark Grey (#333333).
Brown (#5f4432). Red (#be4343). Orange (#be7a43). Yellow (#afa426). Lime Green (#7aaf26).
Green (#2caf26). Turquoise (#26af6d). Light Blue (#26a4af). Blue (#265daf). Purple (#3c26af).
Violet (#9426af). Pink (#af2673)
Twilight Sparkle (#a66ebe). Rarity (#5e51a3). Applejack (#e97135). Pinkie Pie (#ea80b0). Rainbow Dash (#6aaadd).
Fluttershy (#e6b91f).
Those are all the color prompts as they appear in the wheel option. But I know for some obscure authors out there it's not really satisfying enough for them to have just those limited options. Maybe they want to establish a chat log in the flow of the story as opposed in it's typical format of
Person 1: Hi.
Person 2: Hello.
Person 1: Nice weather today.
Person 3: But it's always better to have an umbrella just in case.
Person 2: Who TF are you?
I find it's a little more engaging (for me at least) to have a little color thrown in to add to the dynamic of who's speaking. And sometimes the options on the color wheel aren't really right for the character I want to portray. Like this shade of yellow, I don't see working well for Celestia. Instead, I'd like to see her in this shade. Or maybe this one. How about Princess Luna, this wouldn't really work out well for her. So... how about this one instead? Maybe this one? Or even this one. Princess Cadance's thing is pink, but is this really right for her? Maybe we could go with this one. Or this one. Or even this one.
Suddenly you're introduced to options that aren't on the wheel. And I know it can be frustrating to try to find a hex code that works for the color you want. What I am doing is going back to the legacy prompt, introducing the old colors that the site used to have available, plus some others that weren't on the wheel at the time. So here are some shortcuts you can do to find these colors.
Many of you know how you have the hex code for your color, for example {color=#af2673} (I have it in these brackets to not activate the prompt).
You can delete the part where the code occurs {color=}.
And instead, throw in a color you can easily identify from off the top of your head, like black. {color=black}
Throw it into the prompt and boom.
So allow me to go through some of the prompts that you can work with. WARNING: Some prompts are more visible depending on the theme you're using while you read (mine is always night mode).
White, lightgray, gray, darkgray, black, red, orangered, orange, yellow, greenyellow, lime, green, lightgreen, darkgreen, turquoise, cyan, lightblue, skyblue, royalblue, blue, darkblue, indigo, purple, fuchsia, pink, hotpink, magenta, violet, brown, tan, silver, gold, olive, beige, crimson, maroon, chartreuse, navy, teal, azure, plum, CHOCOLATE!
Have fun with the simplified options before you get invested in looking up the hex code you want. And mods, please don't ban this feature, it's pretty awesome!
Chartreuse is such a great word I did not know.
on dark mode, indigo is the hardest to read. Neat
