I pictured spike becoming like Harvey dent aka two face
due to everything that has happened .

I see it playing out potentially like this:
The girls distance themselves from him not because they hate him but due to reliving the traumatic memories, and when that happens the new villain makes their appearance causing spike to come closer to his breaking point and eventually snap. Thus basically the girls have to help bring back his sanity.

Since if he is going to become Harvey Dent aka two face, that means he has enough having an unfair life and other like him or in any same situation and start killing or taking out their businesses and having his sanity back is more of a flip of a coin due to the fact of mental scars.
To add he has noting left to lose or finally is done with the world so he will let it burn both if he was an enemy or not, but mostly if you stand in his way.
