Behind-the-page: My Dearest Twilight · 4:31pm Oct 3rd, 2022
Hiya, lovely peeps!
Welcome to my new series: behind-the-page, where I can give you background information on my newest story. Make sure to read the story first to avoid spoilers and understand what we’re talking about.
Today’s story: My Dearest Twilight.
This story was written for FanOfMostEverything’s Ancestral Tribute Contest, which focuses on parents not doing parent things. I debated long and hard over who and what to write about. I originally wanted to write about Firelight and Stellar Flare, but I didn’t have an idea. Then I wanted to write about a budding friendship between a young Windy Whistles and Mrs. Shy in Cloudsdale, in letter form. But then I realize that I don’t exactly have a plot. So I though, ‘Why not write a letter for another character?’
And so this piece was born.
My Dearest Twilight is a lot of firsts for me. My first story set in the Friendship is Magic world, as opposed to Equestria Girls. My first story focusing on Twilight Velvet and Night Light. My first story in letter format. My first romance. It’s also the shortest thing I’ve ever written, standing at a meager 1.3k words. So, yeah. It pushes me out of my comfort zone.
Since this story was written before Velvet and Night became parents, the former is called Twilight, as there’s only one Twilight at this point in time. “This point in time” is a few years after the couple’s graduation from Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns. They’re both young adults at this point, both living in Canterlot.
I’ve done my best to include the canon personalities of both lovers. Night and his love of bingo and charts; Velvet and her love of thrill-seeking. From the Season 7 episode ‘Once Upon a Zeppelin’, Velvet shows considerable skill in magic, given that she self-levitates and levitates Shining and Flurry with her. Self-levitation is a high-level magical skill.
This is my first attempt at a romance story. I decided to go for a love letter since that’s what most simple. It’s the relationship from Night’s point of view. It’s also a romance born out of a friendship between two ponies who’ve known each other for a long time. With that said, if the story doesn’t feel realistic or organic, feel free to tell me and tell me what I can do to better my stories next time. Oh, but please write in the story’s comment section, not in this blog’s.
That’s all, peeps. Feel free to check my story, leave a comment and tell all your friends! See ya around!
