Attention!!! For those of you who like battleships and understands 3d printers or likes to build RC planes, please read this!!! · 1:58am Sep 26th, 2022
Hey everyone! I’ll be getting a 3d printer soon and I wanted to try making a large scale space battleship Yamato based on the final battle version and I need some ideas.
I plan for it to have working guns, and for it to be able to fly and go through water, just like in the anime.
However, If I’m going to try making a large scale Yamato with working guns that also flies and can travel through water, I need ideas for how to make it all work. I was thinking of using airsoft BBs or nerf bullets for the small guns and ping pong balls for the main guns. I’m just wanting help for concept ideas for how I make the thing fly and how I can make the guns work. So far an idea I have is using a big balloon or multiple to put inside it so its light enough to be able to fly through the air. The Yamato has retractable wings on it that could probably work, to keep it in the air, but what should I use for propulsion? A propeller? A turbine propeller? How do I get the guns to fire? Would it fly like a lifting body aircraft?
I have no idea what to do. If you read this, and you know how to use a 3d printer or know a thing or two about building RC planes/ships/etcetera, and you’d like to give me your opinion/ideas, please let me know!

you'd need an absolutely MASSIVE balloon if you want to make that thing fly. depending on the actual scale of the thing after printing, it'd likely be very hard for any run-of-the-mill balloon to float. chances are you'd have to look around for either one giant balloon or many small ones.
not only that, but you wouldn't have any altitude control either. the thing is either gonna fly up into the sky and disappear until the balloons pop, or never leave the ground at all. your best case scenario would be to perfectly balance the lift of the balloons against the pull of earth's gravity, and use fans or something to maneuver up and down, which would add even MORE weight.
overall, I really don't think that balloons would be a feasible choice for something where you want decent control over. i'd recommend looking into turning it into a custom drone of some kind instead, as drone propellers will be far better at generating lift than balloons, and probably cheaper too given how much helium you'd need

Well, I wasn’t going to have the balloon be the only thing keeping it up, I just needed the balloons to make the thing lighter. I was hoping that it’d be able to fly easier if it had something to help it be lighter.

👍
Have you tried not spamming the blog in more then one channel in the fimfic discord?

As for the buoyancy issue. I was thinking of putting in a few light-ish weights in the thing on the bottom/middle of the ship.

I’m still trying to figure this stuff out, I’m slow when it comes to stuff.

alrighty

Its fine as long as you understand

It took me nearly forever to figure out how to do blog posts or making new stories/chapters, I didn’t join any groups until recently!

Now back on the topic of blog posts, can we talk about this one? I’m still having a little trouble with how to make the weaponry work and wether or not I should put a propeller or something into where the wave-motion gun should be, or if I should put the propeller in the back?

I’ve seen a bunch of stuff on YouTube with a group called Flite test and they’ve made some weird looking aircraft and made some things fly that normally shouldn’t fly.

I’m not interested in virtual stuff, because they aren’t real and I can’t actually touch it. I need to be able to feel it, to experience it, to fly it, to see it move.
Why not print out the the last dreadnought on earth USS Texas instead? That baby ol mine endured both world wars and is still kicking and isn't a hunk of metal under the sea.

Yes the Yamato sunk in April 7, 1945, but this is the space battleship from the anime based on the original ship.
I was going to do a prototype first. I was going to use a long balloon used for balloon animals and put it into a completely hollow model and try to make it fly with a PowerUp 3.0 Bluetooth.
Oh the wave motion gun. I never understood why ships never had a massive cannon running the length of the vessel. Its a standard feature on all my spell jammers. and spell jammers are a main feature of my personal fantasy world.
