Slumberland... · 10:05pm Aug 30th, 2022

From the director of The Hunger Games 2, 3, and 4...

This. What is this? Why is this?

To be clear, yes, this is based on the Winsor McCay comic Nemo in Slumberland (from which my own fic also takes its name). Surprisingly, this fact appears precisely nowhere in the trailer itself, or even in the video description. I guess it must have popped into the public domain recently? I am honestly quite baffled as to why a film of this would be made, and why, if the inspiration is so loose, the name would be kept at all. It's kinda like if JOKER was still called JOKER, no one actually knew who the Joker was, and those that did would be surprised to learn it's connected at all. SLUMBERLAND is a good title, don't get me wrong, it's just...really?

Then again, the only reason I even watched this trailer was because of the name, and the "hmm, same name as that McCay strip, huh" reaction it caused. I am somewhat annoyed by this thing seemingly just taking the name to capitalise on the vague nostalgia anyone who knows the strip might have for it, and not even bothering to have the grace to introduce new viewers to its source, but hey, whatever, I don't actually care, and will almost certainly never watch it.

If there's any fans of Winsor McCay and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 out there, though...congratulations, I hope it's everything you dreamed. :raritywink:

I think it might be public domain, actually! I just recently backed a kickstarter of someone making a Little Nemo video game. That sadly has nothing to do with the original game. :B

I had never heard of this, and hey, it's looking pretty good! Wonder how they'll work in the walking bed... My vote is for a Hollow Knight-style fast travel system with beds instead of stags, galloping along through slumberland.
