Hmm, i think you should keep it, its adds a nice touch to the rest of his soviet weapons
I think you should keep the Makarov. He's got an AK 74 and an SVD if I'm not misremembering (and I really wish we could go back to the days of affordable 7n6), and given that those are Soviet-Afghan Era weapons, I think it fits right in. I think it would be cool if he mentioned an AR15A2 he left at home, just to show he collects Cold War weapons in general.
