Hello everyone, and welcome to the blog.
So, earlier this week, I uploaded a blog that discussed an idea I had regarding a setting that was the merging of Egyptian/Cyberpunk themes in a MLP AU, that being Neo Somnambula. Well, today I decided to post a blog discussing the factions in the world. Now it should be noted that this isn't final and is subject to change as time goes on, but I figured that I would post it and see what you all thought.
Major Factions
This includes Sunset Shimmer's forces as well as the Corporations within Neo Somnambula.
Horizon Knights
Serving as a combination of a police/military force, the Horizon Knights serve the princess/pharaoh Sunset Shimmer. These brave mares and stallions have a set of tenets that they must follow:
- Serve to protect the pharaoh and her sacred cities.
- Protect the innocent and the meek.
- Always strive to resolve hostile situations in a peaceful manner.
- If a conflict can't be resolved peacefully and the lives of the innocent are in jeopardy, then brutal force is acceptable.
- If a criminal can't be detained, then lethal force is authorized.
These knights wear special harnesses that can be activated at a moment's notice to immediately envelope their body in heavy plate power armor. Also, when a pony becomes a Horizon Knight, they are given a khopesh that is designed specifically for them.
The Horizon Knights also work closely with the Priesthood of the Unveiling Sun, a religious group that works to ensure that Sunset continually hears the prayers of her people.
Long live the princess. Long live the pharaoh.
CheesyPie Studios
An entertainment studio that is own by Cheese Sandwich and his wife, Pinkie Pie, this company is known for making holo-channels and other forms of entertainment for ponies of all ages. Their main mascot is a teal paraspite wearing a red scarf known as Parry the Parasprite. They're also known for spontaneous birthday party celebrations.
Flim-Flam Industries
A company founded and owned by the Flim Flam brothers, the build various inventions including cybernetics, robotics, vehicles and weaponry. While they are somewhat inexpensive, the quality of their equipment isn't... always reliable. There are even rumors of some of their items exploding after extraneous use.
Love Nest
After much of Equestria was scorched by Daybreaker's rage, many of the species within had to join forces in order to evade extinction, among these were the changelings. Relinquishing her title as queen, Chrysalis is the owner and founder of Love Nest, a business responsible for the creation of various nightclubs as well as love hotels within the cities. Love Nest is also known for specializing in entertainment aimed more toward adult ponies. It is said that these establishments will in exchange for love offer changelings that can offer... special services, though Chrysalis will neither confirm nor deny this.
There are also rumors that Love Nest may be trying to get into the cybernetics business as well.
Rich-Corp
Created by Filthy Rich (though he prefers just to go by Mr. Rich) this company owns many of the general stores in the cities and is known for the shipping and transport of items between the cities. They do produce cybernetics and while they are on the spendy side, they are known for being extremely reliable.
Deadly Factions
These factions are a big threat to the cities.
The Gleaming Eye
A faction that sprung up seemingly out of nowhere, is a group consisting entirely of unicorns who will use the citizens to for their magical experiments. Sometimes those who are experimented on, have had their heads, limbs or other parts of their body transformed to those of other animals/creatures.
The group is surrounded with rumors, one that they actually don't reside in the cities but might have a base within some sort of pocket dimension and the other being that they may have been responsible for Celestia's transformation into Daybreaker.
The Outriders
A while back, Sunset created a group called the Outriders, which where sent out to find resources as well as water to bring back to the cities. Unfortunately the group met their tragic demise and just disappeared.
Recently a group possessing the same symbol has been spotted in the wasteland, robbing shipments between the cities, before disappearing back among the sands. Rumors have it that an orange earth pony mare with a Stetson hat was sported leading them.
Lesser Factions
These are smaller factions that are less known and are probably more exclusive to the city of Neo Somnambula.
The Sons of Nubis
A group comprised entirely of diamond dogs (which despite that name consists of both male and female DDs), that work to preserve the safety of other diamond dogs within the cities. Resembling a biker gang, the Sons of Nubis believe that actions speak louder than words and that it is more effective to claw and bite first, then ask question later. The leader of the group is actually a diamond dog jackal, Nubis the second.
The Discordants
Those who follow Discord, the ancient serpent of chaos, are none other than the Discordants, a gang that prides itself on causing as much chaos as they can. They however have chosen not to wreck chaos on Mondays as everypony hates Mondays and that day is already chaotic as is.
Many of those who have been experimented on by the Gleaming Eye will come to this group, seeking refuge. Some even believe that Discord blessed them through the encounter and that the Gleaming Eye has unknowingly given them one of Discord's boons.
So that is what I have so far. Tell me what you think. Feel free to offer suggestions that can give these factions a more Egyptian/cyberpunk feel.

Church of Faust:
-dislike Alicorns and believe that the sun and moon should move on their own and trying to find a way to make them do so
-dislike advanced technology as it helps the alicorn Sunset but acknowledge its advantages
-believe in a balance of harmony and chaos
Order of Faust:
-Hate alicorns
-Hate advanced technology, will destroy any that they find
-will perform acts of terrorism against cities belonging to Sunset
Union of the independents:
-City-states
-deal with a lot of refugees
-dislikes others because they don't help with refugees
the rider gang:
-nomadic
-made up of mostly refugees who can't get a place anywhere
-travel in large caravans
-dislike everyone else(except the independents)
-have efficient and durable tech because of constant threat of starvation/dehydration and travelling a lot
