What If.....(Must read, your voice mater!) · 6:48am Aug 5th, 2022
I decided to turn the "Time I Got Reincarnated as a Dragon" into a web comic?
Now hold your horses (Pun very much intended) because this is just an idea. So please make sure to read what I have to say very carefully.
Now as you can surmise from that very first sentence, I was considering trying to make my most popular story here on fimfictions into a comic.
But there is a lot to consider and thing that are required that I need to go over before making any final decisions.
1. The most important thing is funding. Now I've never ever once asked you guys for money and I don't think I will, however this might be the one time I even mentioned this. Now as you all may already know, to make a comic I'll need an artist, and an artist will require payment. Now my job pays fairly well and if I'm able to find a good artist who won't brake the bank, then I could do this all on my own. However that could take a large amount of time to get it done. Which is why I wanted to ask, if I were to make a patreon to which any money donated would go directly into paying the artist( and not a cent touched by me) would you guys help support? Please know that if this sounds like a sudden request then don't freak, this is still all up in the air and there maybe no guarantee it will be a thing.
2. Now for the second most import thing needed for a comic, the artist. Now here is the thing, I really want this comic to be a smashing hit and in order to do so I need someone who can capture the image from the words in the story and bring them life. Now if you need a reference as to what kind of artist I'm looking for, they would need to be someone who can draw clean proper lines. An example that I'm looking for is the Artist who draws the "Rogue Diamond" comic, Sparityqueen. I'm hoping that I can get in contact with them and possibly see if they'd be willing to help if I can pay for their work. But I'm not getting my hopes up on that. But that should at least give you guys the kind of artist I'm looking for. SO if any of you know and artist or even are an artist please feel free to message me.
Now for the difficult part, Legal matters.
There plenty of fan made comics featuring mlp characters so I'm not too scared about HASBRO, However I am concerned about DreamWorks bringing the hammer down on my a**. That's why should we do this the comic will be posted on either on my twitter account, or a DeviantArt account for all to see. The donations to my patreon will not specify anything in regards to this project naturally so technically I'm not making money off any of their characters, and it's true since I won't be doing so really.
Now for some answers to questions some of you may ask.
1. How accurate will this comic be? This comic if it should be made, will be a near 100% accurate version of the written story. The "Near" part is me possibly throwing in some extra scenes that weren't in the original version, so you'd be getting more rather than less.
2. Will this comic be colored? Unfortunately no. The reason being is that not only would a colored comic cost more, but it would probably take more time to make.
3. What will this mean for the written version? This actually may be more good news for you guys. If we we're to make this happen, I would need to focus more of my attention on the story than my other stories. This would mean that the story would get updates faster, while still maintaining it's quality.
I'm sure I left out a few questions that you may have, and you're free to message me either on here or on twitter @Thesaiyanbrony.
This is a really important thing you guys, and it would mean the world to me if you would voice your opinions. If you have something to say either it being good or mean, just please make it constructive.
Hmmm, it sounds like an interesting idea, that's for sure. While I wouldn't be able to support it financially, I support the idea. Although, I think you would be taking a big gamble if you want it to be successful and popular with people outside of your readers.
I agree with the idea of it being colourless and your reasoning behind that. I think people would still like it without pretty colours so long as everything else was good quality.
Then there's the fact that you'd have to find somehow to promote it around the fandom, which is easier said than done. To be honest, I'm unsure of the wider interest the project would receive in order for it to be worth the effort. But drawings and comics are far more accessible easy to consume compared to a written story, so if it gets enough traction it could become popular enough.
I really enjoy this story of yours but, while I think the comic idea is cool and I'd be here for it, I just think the idea's neat.
But this is just one man's thoughts, I'm sure others will have completely different thoughts on this.
If only I knew that comics and colored comics where this much an issue. I don't know how to word this, but I will say, 'do what you think is the best of interests in this story'. I'm 50-50 on this and don't have a precise answer, and need to think this over. I'll come back with my answer later this week. (Why do I feel the need to say it like this?)
II would like to become a patreon. It sounds like a great idea. and would make one of my favorite characters Alive
In my opinion, writing allow for much more control over what's being done : I always found it easier to describe the abstract, the bizarre with words rather than pictures. The simple imagination often makes things that much more impressive than pictures (especially since everyone can "project" what they think the story mean on simple words). The additionnal cost (both in time and money) to find an artist and draw the comics too seems a bit of a drawback to me.
Plus, I can enjoy a written medium for longer than a drawn on, if only because there's mathematically more to read
Thus, I'm more in favor of keeping the story in a written format, if only for the sake of convenience. But either way, I'll keep following the story
I think I would enjoy it as a web comic

Okay I've made my decision and I say do whatever makes you feel is right. Again, I feel 50/50 on this, whatever you decide, we all shall except it like wise monks. Whatever the outcome, I'll be happy with.
Do what makes you happy my friend.
