Problematic Material · 9:09am Jul 28th, 2022
During the brief time that I've been back, there's a lot of things that I've seen that are extremely problematic: child porn (also known as "foalcon"), incest, and even rape... effin' rape!
I didn't want to believe this due to the nature of the material itself...
but Lily Orchard was right about the problematic behavior in the MLP fandom.
The fact that I can come back after so much time has passed
and still find this behavior lingering about makes me sick.
There was also something else Lily Orchard had asked that I want to present to every person who thinks any degree of problematic material is alright:
Why is (said problematic material)
not a deal-breaker for you?
How is it that you can read & write individuals (animals or people) doing such disgusting things?
Why do you think it's okay for individuals too young to give legal consent to engage in sexual behavior with an adult who should know better?
Why do you think it's okay for two biologically related individuals to have sex, even though doing such behavior has proven in the past to have dire consequences, especially for humans?
More importantly, why do you think it's okay to promote this kind of garbage in a literal children's show?
"Fiction doesn't effect the real world."
This excuse is so bone-headed, that I'm ashamed that it even exists.
Whether you realize it or not, art has (and always will) effect the real world.
"...the fact that the media we consume has a profound effect on us (both consciously and subconsciously)
regardless of us knowing perfectly well the difference between fiction and nonfiction
isn't even debate in the scientific community anymore.
The only question is the level of that it effects us and how much it varies from person to person."
- Dominic Noble, Fifty Slightly Darker Shades of Physical and Emotional Abuse
The main point of this post is to get people to have a thought experiment with themselves, and seriously ask themselves why do they consume the material that they consume, especially problematic material.
