Whinny City Pony Con 2022 Reflections Part 2: Saturday · 9:15pm Jun 27th, 2022
After another grab and go breakfast I headed down to Mane events to see the screening of “Make Your Mark.” The special was okay. The audience was less vocal than the one for “Best Gift Ever” back at PVCF18. I’m cautiously optimistic about G5 and the special at least had me intrigued about what’s going to happen in the series coming up in the fall.
I went to the guest of honor script reading after that and it was super fun! It was so neat to see Nicole Oliver do her Celestia voice live and to hear Jenna Warren do her Sunny voice live too. The story they read fit the superhero theme of the con and the dialogue was hilarious.
I went over to the vendor hall after that and bought some pins from Afro Thunder’s Wonders. I got a Flash Magnus, a Braeburn, and a Sunburst. After that I bought a premium lanyard and a Tony Fleecs poster at the con store. I then had lunch at City Works, though this time I sat at the bar instead of doing takeout. I had the fried cheese curds and fried pickle chips with a soda.
I stopped by the Pony Show Trivia panel for a bit and then went back to my room to decide whether or not I wanted to go to the Author Meetup for Writers and Fans. From what I gleaned from reading the description in the con book, the event was for writers to meet up as well as a place to write down story ideas. So, Quills and Sofas, but with a social component? The idea intrigued me, but being that I have only posted clop so far, I felt like I didn’t belong at this all ages event. I was super nervous about people asking me what kind of stories I write. I guess I could have said, “I write romance,” which is true for some stories, though not for others (“Winder Rider’s Punishment” isn’t exactly romantic…). As far as writing story ideas down goes, I would never have wrote down anything M-rated at this event just like I didn’t write down any M-rated stuff at BronyCon’s Quills & Sofas. My fear got the best of me and I ended up not going to this meetup. Another opportunity to socialize and possibly make friends missed…though potential embarrassment avoided.
I think it was around this time on Saturday where I visited the vendor hall again and bought a G5 themed mystery box. The box ended up containing a bunch of pins with pictures of the G5 ponies or dialogue from the movie. There was also a lanyard styled after Hitch’s sheriff’s badge, a stress ball in the form of a tennis ball, and a plush pillow featuring Sunny Starscout.
After that, I went to “After the Fact Live! The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well.” It was a good time. It was so strange to be at an “After the Facet Live!” in such a small room given that the last one I went to was at BC 2019 where even their smaller rooms are larger than Whinny’s.
After snacking on some more popcorn, I went to “Cracked Memory!” This panel involved audience members being randomly selected and asked to draw randomly selected MLP characters from memory. I went to this panel late so I could avoid being picked. At one point, they started picking random audience members and had them tell the artists whom to draw and I deliberately kept my head down so they wouldn’t pick me, which worked. It was a fun panel, but it was running late and I didn’t want to miss 4everfreebrony, so I left and went to see the rest of 4everfreebrony’s set. I like his style of music. His style is heavier than Loudsdale’s. I definitely want to check out more of his stuff.
Was going to go to Gallagher’s Bar, but for some reason I didn’t go and just snacked on some more popcorn before getting in line for the After Dark vendor hall. I arrived a half hour early, so the line was a lot shorter. After the sponsor’s were let through, I got to be among the first batch of non-sponsors to go in. I remember one of the con staff saying, “release the degenerates!” before letting us in. After being released into the AD vendor hall, I bought a Rainbow Dash daki. I then went back to my room and dropped off Dash before going to my last panel of the night, “DrinkPonies: Deep-Dish Drunkards Edition!” It was a trivia game panel, but this time the loser had to take a shot.
I went back to my room after that. I was going to go to one more panel, but I was too tired, so I fell asleep. Only one day remained and the post con depression was already creeping up my back.
