This will be a weekly Sunday Blog Posting to share and recommend my favourite LGBT+ fics on the site. The basic rules are that it has to be a story I've read, be LGBT-focused, and can't be my own.
This Sunday we have one of my favourite tragi-gay romances between Rockhoof x OC in Gloaming by Bicyclette!
A rare story about one of the pillars, this tale is focused on the far distant past in a place long gone. Rockhoof and Asmat are in love but separated over the years by the circumstances of distance, birthright, and time. It is a touching romance where all the little interactions between them show the depth of their affection for each other more than any words could. Without going into spoilers, the trials and tribulations of their ongoing romance are fraught with difficulty and seem doomed at every turn, telling a very gripping narrative with in-depth characters that have compelling and complex motivations.
There are a lot of things to enjoy about this fic. Some of the main highlights are the characters, all written beautifully with significant depth and personality. The world, built through small snippets of description work and dialogue, flesh out the distance past leaving the reader thirsty for more, but still enthralled by the unfolding of the plot. Plus, a personal favourite aspect of mine, the themes are on point, conveying the messages of the text in a story of loss, love, and our relationship to time.
Though definitely a heavy story due to its themes and narrative, I give this one a solid recommendation for those looking for some MxM romance with some teeth to it. Until next week, happy reading!
