The Night's Stars Update + Full Coverart · 5:09pm May 7th, 2022

Short update + the full of the cover art and an alternate version below, if you’re interested.

It’s gonna be a little bit longer for chapter 51 to be ready because I’ve not actually started the second or third edit pass and I need to do some rewriting in it as well. I should be able to get a draft finished in a few hours if I actually sat down to work on it, then it’s a matter of getting it just right. After some consideration and feedback from my prereader, I’m going to tweak it a bit to incorporate some things I initially didn’t think about initially when writing the chapter.

But first, I want to finish the chapter I’m currently drafting. And then I will try not to repeat what happened when I finished drafting a chapter and started drafting another.

Neither will preview for some reason.

Uncropped Cover art.

Alternate version that was how Moon’s wings were originally going to be.

It took about 7 1/2 hours for me to draw it and then another 30-60 min to make little tweaks to it. I learned a bit while doing this, which was fun. Originally I was going to use the folded wing Nightmare Moon, but it was so much less lively than the spread wings. I also have another alternate version where her mane is layered between her wings, which makes more sense but doesn’t have the same appeal as the version I ultimately chose.

It’s probably the best thing I’ve drawn, but I was anxious about using it for cover art. I am likewise anxious about showing off the full versions of it.

I would be interested in trying to draw more scenes from The Night’s Stars at some point in the future. It would be good practice for me. But finding the motivation isn’t so easy.

Writes, draws—do maths and we've got a true renaissance man on our hands!

All jokes aside, I understand being nervous about presenting your own work to other people. I'm not a writer (sadly) or artist (even sadder), but I do write code for a living. Years ago, during my studies, I wrote a piece of software (roughly an Assembly-like language for an abstract computer) that ended up being used in the practical sessions of our course on operating systems and computer organization. Its use was...janky and I'm not sure I'd want to know what other people would think about that particular piece of software, were they given access to the source code. Which, I think, they might actually have. Hm...

I’ve also modded games and made crappy 3d models for my mods.

I loooved modding the old STALKER games back in the day, especially the first one. Even was in a modding group, though our project never really materialized. Good times.
