    My First Convention

I'd been meaning to put this up earlier, but well, better late than never.

Tomorrow and through Sunday, I'll be out of town - my dad and I are going to a convention over in Beckley. Dad's going to be vending a table there to try and sell some books.

    Thoughts on Harakiri (1962)

Wow. This was a masterclass in buildup and tension. I knew about Masaki Kobayashi's movie before - a scathing indictment of the samurai and the honor code that they profess to live by - but all the same, watching the movie had me hooked from start to finish. :scootangel:

Some More Thoughts on Godzilla x Kong

This is more of a full-fledged review with some extra observations that sprang to mind, thinking about the movie. For anyone who's interested.

    Thoughts on Galaxy Quest

Finally getting around to writing up my thoughts on this one. I had heard plenty of good things about it from my parents, though I had yet to see it. Finally, we rung in the new year by watching "Galaxy Quest" with dinner.

I watched Godzilla x Kong yesterday

    And all in all?

It was fun. Good mindless monster mash of a film. Funny how much some of the stuff with Kong in the movie made me think, just a little, of Primal. If only for the lack of dialogue and the importance of character through action and expression.

Cartoons Today vs When I Was a Kid · 6:45pm Apr 18th, 2022

Just sharing this short parody video I found on YouTube a few weeks ago.

The sheer sarcasm on display is just staggering. :rainbowlaugh:

Pffffft.

I am amused the 'cartoons back then' uses a mix of both Transformers and Gobots :rainbowlaugh:

That was great, I agree.

I also got a bang out of the "Captain Planet" spoof in there too.

"Bwahaha! I'm polluting for literally no reason!"

Well, he's not entirely wrong.

Honestly, that's part of what makes it funny to me. The guy skewered those cartoons of the 80s *perfectly*. XD

(And the caption of the video itself cracks me up too. "Adult Man Angry at KIDS SHOW". Given some of the asswipes who've populated the Internet raging about cartoons like it's a personal religious crusade, I'm all for deflating that bit of pretentiousness.)

Oh same. Comedy can be used as a weapon. It always has. A weapon against fear. Against hate. Against despair. From the Jesters in the halls of Kings and Queens who skewered any who could not take a joke with clever remarks and witty barbs, to modern comedians who relentlessly mock the cruel people of the world who have nothing better to do than stew in their own hatred and misery. Who lash out at people who want things to change for the better because it frightens them, or because they hate them.

So laugh. Laugh that the heavens themselves take notice. And make people laugh.
