I don't have much to say today... [There is a collective gasp, and two readers faint] So, this entry will be rather short. [Cheers and applause ring out]

    Anyway... moving on.

    Backstory: Little Filly Lost

First, some context. The Dark Steel series is a spin off from The Quicksilver Chronicles. The private investigator Dark Steel is first mentioned in chapter 3 of One Of Us where he helps Quicksilver and Misty find a lost friend. Those events are retold from Steel's point of view in

    Backstory: The Painless Murders

In the story One of Us I introduce a private detective, Dark Steel, that Quicksilver and Misty hire to help them find Tinker Cob. He was a fun character, but didn't get nearly enough screen-time. So I decided to tell the story of the search for Tinker from his point-of-view. That story because

    Backstory: The Alchemist, part 1

The genesis of this story goes back to 2016, long before I'd ever watched the first episode of FiM (early 2020). At that time, I saw a piece of artwork showing a wizard walking. That's it. Just walking with his staff and a cape billowing out behind him. Something about that image inspired me to figure out who he was and why he was in a rush to get somewhere. So I started writing. I stopped

I don't have much to say today... [There is a collective gasp, and two readers faint] So, this entry will be rather short. [Cheers and applause ring out]

Anyway... moving on.

When I first started publishing stories back in 2020, the subject of visibility and getting readers came up. One of the suggestions I received was to enter contests. It would be good writing practice, and some who saw the contest submission might look at my other stories. Since then I've looked at multiple contests as they appear. The problem is that the contest story prompts just didn't inspire me to write a story.

Enter the Who Crossed Over My Little Pony? contest. In this case it wasn't a story prompt, but a character prompt: an animated character introduced no later than 1947, or one included in the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (sent in 1947).

As I looked through the list of characters that appeared in WFRR I came across little Peter Pegasus. He first appeared in Fantasia (1940) and also has a fly-by cameo in WFRR. Somehow he just seemed like a natural for a crossover with ponies. My first story draft was a little rough (as my editor was more than willing to point out). But I worked on it some more and ended up with something I enjoyed reading. Perhaps others will too.

I submitted the story last week, and now I wait for the contest to close.

See? Short. [I exit to a standing ovation]
