I really like the version from Shrek better. It's uptempoed (since films charge megabucks per second) and part of an octave higher which is easier to listen to.

Huh, I don't remember it being in Shrek. Thanks for reminding me 🙂

Fun fact: I'm too lazy to look up who but the first person who covered hallelujah asked Leonard Cohen if there were any other verses and he gave the dude literally like 80 verses he had written and the other dude who I really should look the name up of basically picked and choose which ones he liked the most and every cover version since then has some combination of Leonard's versus and that guy's versus but apparently the 73 or so unseen versus still exist in Leonard's writings which now reside in a Toronto library so the next time I'm in Toronto I very much hope I'll be able to expose the world to a very important hitherto hidden cultural treasure.

Like Bob dylan, Leonard Cohen is one of those artists who other people do better versions of his songs. I don't know if that sentence makes grammatical sense but you should get what I mean. That said, his live in London version from a few years before he died is fucking great with the bass rumble in his elder voice:
