Yeah Gen 5's newest 2D animated series is coming to youtube April 7th. Check the link to see a short Instagram vid featuring the new Mane 5's animated look in 2D

And in more news the G5 special on Netflix Make Your Mark will be released on May 26th. Not much known about it only that this special will be in the animation as the movie on Netflix
And more so Gen 5 also getting it's own comic series, and here's a synopsis for the first chapter: With magic returned to Equestria, the ponies are more united than ever—at least until one of the Unity Crystals is stolen! Can the Mane 5 find the culprit before magic is gone for good? And could it really be that their pet Pomeranian is leading them to the city of Canterlot of Friendship Is Magic fame?
So with this it'll be unknown which of the two versions will be more canonically accurate

I’m up in the air about it. It to me it looks too much like pony life and teen titans go. But that’s only visual I’ll have to wait to see how it’s going to be as a whole.

I like the 3d animation from the movie better.
I still miss Twilight and the others already.
You might have missed it but they are actually doing two series. The Youtube one which will probably be a side thing and a Netflix series that will use the 3D animation coming in September.
