Greetings, ladies and gentlemen! This is Mr. J back with another movie review for today! This afternoon, I will be reviewing a 2006 film by the name of Monster House. Now, this has been a film I’ve been wanting to review for quite a while now; I somewhat wanted to review some other Halloween-themed movie today, but I firmly decided to stick to the one I’ve been planning to review a couple months prior. As for Monster House, this was yet another one of those movies I grew up watching although I wasn’t entirely a big fan of it because it focuses on Halloween—one of my least favorite holidays. Nevertheless, I do remember enjoying this film to some degree even though there are other movies I love more.

As I was recently reflecting on this film, I remember how interesting and engaging the plot was and how it makes viewers go at the edge of their seat whenever something weird or scary is about to happen. This movie is about a mysterious house, occupied by a grouchy elderly man, that has captured the suspicion of a young teenager by the name of DJ. The boy and his friends try to solve the mystery behind the house until they fearfully discover that the house is alive and has devoured all those who unfortunately encountered it.

Ever since I first watched this movie, I thought that the concept of a living house being a monster was extremely awesome and intriguing. Who would have thought that a house was alive and has the capacity to see, hear, and use large trees as it’s own arms? I mean, that’s freaking cool! And boy, this film did an excellent job in balancing out jump scares and scary moments. In my opinion, if a movie has too many jump scares and little to no story, it’s just nothing more than just shallow and dull.

The animation looked pretty much decent to say the least. The character designs weren’t terrible per say, but they were fairly tolerable.

I definitely enjoyed some of the voice acting as well. The late Fred Willard did a fine job as DJ’s dad (just because I love Fred Willard), Steve Buscemi was great as Nebbercracker, Jason Lee was okay but not that great as Bones (I disliked his character), and Maggie Gyllenhaal did a decent performance as Zee. Who was my favorite character in all of this? Easy. The Monster House herself—a.k.a Constance.

Speaking of which, the backstory of Constance was kinda heartbreaking because all the horrible treatment and the abuse she suffered from cruel strangers and douchebags was just sad to look at. She really didn’t deserve any of that. So it would make sense why she (as the house) would attack and lash out against anyone who would dare come across her. It must have been really difficult and emotionally painful for Nebbercracker to care for her during all these years they’ve been together. It gives the cliche line from grouchy old men “Get off my lawn!” a whole new different... sad meaning and purpose.

In conclusion, this movie shows us how suffering and abuse can harm a person and the toll it takes on them. It is both scary yet intriguing at the same time. So I must admit that it was an unforgettable experience watching this movie. Therefore, I will give this an 8/10.

Peace.

Amen, brother. (Offer drink) Cheers.

Agreed, it was a good movie. I have a suggestion for a new one though, Clifford the Big Red Dog. And no, I'm not talking about the 2004 animated movie, I mean the 2021 live action movie

Can you please slow down with the requests? And no, neither of them will be given a chance since I never actually loved that franchise.

My favorite line is after being swallowed by the house: (not the exact line)
'We are under the uvula.'
'So it's a girl house.'

Has to say that this movie scare me as a child

Also, could you do 'Paw Patrol: The Movie' Please

Well, it just came out and to me it a good film. It's not perfect, but it's not bad, unlike most movie. So you should give it a try if you up to it
