Well, this is awkward. I don't exactly have a large following, but I feel like I owe those of you who are checking back periodically for the next chapter a bit of explanation.
As I have previously reported, my comfortable writing environment disappeared when I closed the doors to my company. I used to spend the time between customers writing in my office. After I went out of business, I just never found the time or drive to write from home and my new job didn't exactly offer me an office to write from on their dime.
Earlier this summer, my new job moved me up to full-time and 24-hour overnight on-calls multiple days a week. While that means I am financially stable for the first time in decades, it also means that when I do manage to carve out some time for myself, writing is usually not my go-to form of self-entertainment.
Now, don't panic. This is not the end of Crystals & Chitin. I have no intention of abandoning the story. It will be finished. I promise. I already know everything that will happen from now until "The End". It is all in my head already, just waiting to be typed out. I may end up forcing myself to sit down and put a few hundred words onto the screen at a time... or, it is equally possible that one day I get bitten by the authoring bug and knock out the last four chapters in a single sitting.
Don't hold your breath on that last scenario, but I also won't rule it out. I want to see this story finished, and I want to share it with you.
As an aside: I watched the G5 movie. While I don't think I am as interested in G5 fanfic as I was G4, the movie entertained me. I recommend it, and am looking forward to the special next spring and the series to follow that.
