I can imagine the Hermit Alicorn calling Celestia a thief.

Twilight Sparkle was HIS, as much as Sunset Shimmer was hers.

Also, the Hermit Alicorn being almost a non-entity in the story makes sense when you remember he's the HERMIT... he DOESN'T CARE about much except being left alone to his archives and his studies... Much like Twilight Sparkle until Celestia drafted her into becoming an Alicorn and then saddled her with the throne.
In particular since it was SUNSET SHIMMER'S destiny to succeed Celestia... But Celestia's parental mistakes and Sunset's ambition outstepping her moral growth sunk that ship.
BTW: For what it's worth. I imagine in the pony pov verse, Trixie WOULD HAVE BEEN Luna's student... except Luna's stint as Nightmare Moon meant that destiny was denied Trixie (.
Sunset and Trixie are BOTH ponies whose destiny was derailed!
Celestia: She's mine!
Hermit: She's mine!
Celestia: No she's mine!
Hermit: No she's mine!
Twilight: Umm, don't I get a say in any of this?
Both: NO!
