Some background music. You're going to need it: we're going to be here a while.

    Status Update, April 2024 Edition

Part of my slowness in writing M.L.G.'s latest chapter is for the usual reasons: tiredness, minor depression, having other things on the mind, that sort of thing. However, in what can only be described as "whimsy", I've recently decided to complete a list of all of the intentional shout-outs and references in the story as of the most recent chapter.

    Something To Think About

I have a message to share with prospective authors. If you go into writing a story---be it as a living, or just for fun---don't automatically assume that what you're doing is wholly original.

    Tired, Running On Empty

That pretty much summarizes my mental state of the past few days. Constantly tired (half due to not getting enough sleep and half due to my walking regimen), and I can't really think of things I want to write for the story. You know you're having trouble finding things to talk about when your brain fishes for tuna, but ends up with guppies instead.

    So INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATED Right Now

I copied the latest chapter of M.L.G. to my flash drive as usual. I took it home with the intent to post it today. I double-click the file.

M.L.G. Character Profile: Mortar and Pestle · 4:06am Sep 3rd, 2021

NOTE: If I can't think of who a given character's voice would sound like, then I'll leave that bit of trivia out. Now, then...

Name: Mortar

Species: Male earth pony

Approximate age: Late 40s

Coloration: Grass green coat, tan-gray mane and tail

Cutie Mark: Three bricks with mortar holding them together

Special Talent: Can zero in on anything that looks out of place; typically used in his line of work

Accessories: Wears a combination vest and tool pouch. Also wears a hard hat if he needs to help with remodeling.

General Description: Runs 'Mortar & Son', a home repair company consisting of himself, his son, and a hired hoof to hold down the fort at the office whenever they have work to do. Is hard-working, and has been at his job for decades. Is a humble and honest pony, and isn't afraid to admit when he doesn't know something. Is part of a local-area bowling team.

Other: Was inspired by advertisements I saw for a business called "Father & Son" back when I was a kid in Michigan.

Name: Pestle

Species: Male earth pony

Approximate age: Mid-twenties

Coloration: Forest green coat, brown mane and tail

Cutie mark: Traditional mortar and pestle, natch.

Special talent: Unknown at this time.

Accessories: Has a pair of safety goggles around his neck, plus the same vest/tool pouch as his father.

General Description: Is the 'son' in "Mortar & Son", having joined the company a few years prior to the story's events. Is skilled in home repair like his father, but still has plenty to learn and is willing to do so. Enjoys pasta, which he thanks his mother for. Is a bit on edge when it comes to the unknown, and is wary of Leviathan. Due in part to his father's age, he has an edge in regards physical strength.
