Trying to encourage a friend. · 11:19pm Aug 12th, 2021
Recently, I was chatting with a friend on Discord, who has written a bit on this website, and though not a huge name, has a decent number of likes on his works. We have a few common likes, and have joked that we may be lost twins, though he's more of an Anime fan than I am. One of the Anime he's been watching, and reading the Manga, is Beastars, and more importantly, has a bit of a crush on the main lead, Legosi. (Pictured)
I'm mostly writing this because I have offered him some ideas where he could make his own displaced fic with the titular gray wolf, in one of the three major ways.
-One where he's dressed up as Legosi at a convention and/or wakes up as him in Equestria. (Can be regular Equestria or one where it mirrors the world of Beastars in some ways)
-One where Legosi is suddenly winded up in Equestria and has to find a way back home soon.
-An AU where Beastars and Equestria are in the same universe, and Legosi is sent to Equestria.
Now, I know I could technically make any of these fics myself, but I've only seen a few clips of the anime and haven't read the manga. My friend has, but he fears that he may accidentally assassinate Legosi's character, and is generally unsure about self inserts where he's in the body of someone else. I don't want to seem like I'm forcing him to do it, but I just want to encourage him to at least give it a try, and will be able to help him as much as I can when it's possible.
Honestly no writing is bad writing (as confusing as that sounds) because any writing done helps you do better next time. Being worried about doing a character justice is a good concern to have because it means you care, but it should not stop you from doing anything with a topic. No way to know how well it goes if you do not try. Besides, even if the character doesn’t come off quite right there is not a lot to lose anyway. Been a while since I watched Beastars (no manga knowledge) but if I remember it well enough the third option could be fun. Nothing quite like foreign exchange students!
I can already imagine a lot of trauma for the ponies if its the fully herbivorous equestrian society that often gets depicted, but that could lead to Gallus being a good first friend for Legoshi.
To be honest, i'd suggest to him to try an all original take on how to be Displaced, mostly due to people get really annoyed if a comic con or the merchant is used, thus making them give a thumbs down as they assume the rest of the story is the same as others.
