The Girl who Really Didn't Just Live

As you might notice from my blog title today, I'm revisiting The Girl who Didn't Just Live. Last time, the story died and was replaced by the short-lived A Hogwarts Harmony. Which was replaced by the even shorter-lived ARM (I don't think I've released even the full title for that one yet, let alone the first chapter, but it's pretty close to DOA)... and a recent comment

    I'm not afraid to die.

No, don't get me wrong, I'm not suicidal.

The thing is... this morning, I fell ill. It was probably a couple days ago when it actually started, but despite repeated measuring, I didn't have a fever. That changed last night- my temperature shot from normal to a moderate fever overnight, left me with no energy to anything when I got up.

The Girl Who... really didn't just live after all, I guess.

Pardon the twisted title up there, but I couldn't resist. I am, after all, talking about TGwDJL: The Girl who Didn't Just Live... but also died.

    Hiatus... Expired!

    Hello.

For the last while, despite a few updates to some stories (I guess TGwDJL got a rewrite released seven weeks ago...?), I've been on Author Hiatus for the last while, and now I'm finally coming back. I've restabilized myself, and I'm ready to resume writing, and actually getting stuff done once again.

She who did Far More than Just Living

    Hai.

So, we now have The Girl who Didn't Just Live Chapter 22 live. It was an absolute nightmare to rewrite, I can tell you- it took a small eternity to make sure there was actually a reason for Hailey to resurrect her mother. Not her father, though, that part ended up getting dropped from the chapter... yet it still grew by a thousand words or so.

When Patrons Do The Impossible · 4:17am Jul 8th, 2021

Once upon a time, I set up my Patreon account, and started attaching links to it with each chapter I posted. I think I started that practice during The Gate, as well as the early access.

Naturally, the tier lists went through a lot of revision. But, except for (relatively) short periods where I wasn't open for commissions, the highest tier has always been available... and priced so high I thought nobody would ever get it. I mean, since when is a mere 5-10k words of my works each month- or even less, depending on how often/quickly I'm writing- worth a whopping $50/month? I honestly expected that the first person to get that one would be asking for the primary perk of the tier: A commission.

Not Amethyst. She- or, at least, I assume they're a she- went straight from not being a patron at all to that highest tier. And, what's more, I haven't heard a peep from her on the topic of any commissions!

It's been a few months since then, which makes this well overdue, but I just wasn't sure how to word it. I'm still not, really- I really can't put into words the message that buying into the $50 tier to get rewards available in the $10 tier (for the most part, at least) sends, nor how thankful I am to receive such a message. It's...

It's like when I'm rolling down the road in my truck, and I see someone stick their arm out the passenger side window as they pass and pump their arm up and down... in the classic request to toot the air horn. I've had people do that exactly twice so far- and both times, it made my day- even if I didn't actually touch the horn either time (first was in a traffic jam, I didn't want to scare anyone; I'm not entirely sure why I didn't on the second, though it might be because I'm still getting used to the concept of using the city horn, so the air horns are still out of sight out of mind...)

So... Thank you. Thank you for your support. Thank you for being patient with me as I struggled with this new job and its requirements on my time. And of course, Amethyst, thank you for the occasional editing help as well.
