Don't you hate... · 6:53pm Jun 20th, 2021
When you download a new game app on your phone, but despite it being interesting, you only play for about ten minutes because there's an ad between most if not all levels, so six of that ten minutes watching ads and four playing.
Or you could pay the low price of $4.99 to remove them forever!
Hate that.
Hate it so much.
What's worse is when it stops mid-level to show an ad. These practices are causing a 2600-esque mobile game crash, and one that can't happen soon enough. Then maybe we'll have consistently good mobile games.
I can relate... I'm an Angry Birds Game fan and I more or less have to deal with that... nothing short of irritating.
Yes, yes I hate that. But I don't even get to the second ad. As soon as a game stops letting me play the game to slap an ad in my face I hit my "home button" an uninstall. MY second chances, no matter how much fun I was having with the game.
I understand that the game makers need to make money, and advertisements are the easiest way to do that, but there are so many better ways than forcing adds between each level or even in the middle of a level in some cases. I've played Puzzle & Dragon for years and somewhat recently they added a feature where once a day you can watch an ad to gain 1 Monster Slot. Every since it was added I've "watched" that ad, every single day. Just start it up, put my phone down and do something else for thirty seconds then go back to playing. That's how you do ads, make them optional and give a small reward for them.
Or the other way I'll accept is the banner adds, the ones that run along top or bottom edge of the playing board and flip between different ones. You're always seeing them there, and sometimes one catches your eyes, but they don't interrupt the gameplay. I used a Solitaire app for years that had banner adds, then they swapped to the "ad after every game" version and I initially stopped using it and left a 1 Star review about it.
The other thing that is an instant uninstall for me is if the game holds me hostage. No "exit" option and the "back button" on my phone doesn't exit out of the game. If they disable the "back button" but have an "exit" option on the main screen I give it a pass. But if I have to do even a single extra step to get the option to leave the game when I'm on the main screen it is removed from my phone. I'm just not going to deal with that, I want to be able to stop playing when I choose to do so.
If I ever get around to writing an app, if I want to make money off it I'll just list it at a dollar and see what happens.
Paid apps should be forbidden to have ads. Period.
I feel ya, B. I feel ya...
I used to have hopes that mobile games would rival their PC and console cousins for quality. Then the tsunami of freemium trash flooded every app store, seemingly overnight, and those hopes died. Now the best you can get is, mostly, ports.
It's called a hussle honey...
this is why I don't game on my phone :B
So... Will the game software require your communication and location permissions?
This is why I rooted my phone and installed global adblocking.
Open source games all the way. Sadly, there's not many but there are a few real gems in there on the F-Droid repository.
(Granted, most of the F-Droid apps are super nerdy and highly specialized)
Honkai Impact, Genshin Impact, Fate/Grand Order, Mario Kart Tour, and Moonlight Sculptor are all free mobile games that are quite good and have zero ads on them. Moonlight sculptor is a korean mmorpg though, so be prepared for grinding.
I've got games on my tablet, and I turn the wifi off when I'm playing them. I'm never bothered by ads, though I'm sure they've got them. I don't game on my phone, but usually keep the internet off on that, too.
adds make me want to punch people.
Most games won’t show ads if you turn off wifi for your phone.
I feel this in my soul.
My dad plays Wordscapes so much that he payed for no ads lol.
