“Alrighty, kid. So uh, what did you say your name was?”

The purple-maned unreformed nymph, who had a purple cap on as well as a matching shirt and some shorts, looked up at the stallion behind the counter. She pushed her empty plate away and answered, “It’s nothing, simple; it’s Flutterwings.”

“Alright, Flutterwings. Who did you say you were waiting for?”

She looked to her left, specifically at the glass door leading into the pub. “His parents always refer to him as ‘Coalescence,’ but everyone just calls him ‘Coal’.”

“How long have you two been together for?”

“A week.”

“...A week?” the stallion parroted, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah, we haven’t really gotten the hang of it as much as anyone else would have,” Flutterwings responded, tilting her cap. “But hey, we are getting somewhere. He’s a nice guy. He’s cute, he’s tough—”

Her ears perked as she heard the familiar ring of bell that was accompanied by the door opening. A male non-reformed nymph, one with a sleek gray mane and red-violet eyes, walked in and sat next to Flutterwings. “Hey.”

“Hey.” She spun around to face him, grinning. “You took a while.”

“Heh, sorry about that. Had to make sure my parents weren’t watching.”

“I really don’t get what’s their deal. I mean, sure, I kinda get they left the hive to go stay in Ponyville, but so what if me and my family stayed in Chrysalis’ reign longer than they did? Psh.”

Coal chuckled. “I have no idea.”

“I also heard they became famous musicians, eh?”

“Actually, they did,” he responded. “They’ve recently taken an interest in rap, rock, metal… heck, maybe one day you can—”

“Coalescence!”

Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing, and the two nymphs practically jumped out of their seats upon hearing a female voice bellow at the entrance of the pub. Coal’s jaw dropped in fear as he turned to see a scarlet-eyes female changeling with a messy gray mane. “M-Mom?!”

Oh, brother… Flutterwings thought as she started sweating gallons.

“What in Equestria do you think you’re doing here, young man?!”

“Mom, let me explain!”

It didn’t take long for her to notice Flutterwings, unfortunately. “I should’ve known,” she hissed, walking over to her.

“Wait, waitwaitwaitwait!” Flutterwings put her forelegs up in defense.

“What?”

“I— uh…” She frantically looked around the room. Then she galloped up to the karaoke machine, grabbing two of the microphones, before grinning nervously at Coal’s mother. “Eheheheh… your son told me you and your husband were musicians.”

“...Did he, now?”

“Y-Yeah! Tell ya what; I challenge you to a duel! A uh… musical duel! Rap number… thingy…” she gritted her teeth, sweating even more. What am I even doing at this point?

The other changeling stared for a moment, then she grabbed the other mic as a grin spread on her face. “You’re on, kid…”
