"Guys?" Zenex asked, walking into Thorax's room, looking around.
"We're under the bed Zen!"
"C-Cousin Hero!"
Zenex ran over and ducked down, crawling under the bed. Hero shuffled to the side so Zenex could squeeze between him and Apex. Apex yelped and hid his face in his hooves. Zenex glanced at Hero, who looked back. Zenex jerked his head towards the room.
"Uh...I'm just gonna...uh...go get us some cookies." Hero said.
"N-No!"
"I'llbebacksoonokaybye!" Hero called, smoke-walking out of the room.
Zenex looked at Apex, only to find him backing away from him. "'Pexy... it's okay-"
"N-No i's no'!" Apex whimpered. "Y-You should b-be happy w-with Flu'ers b-bu' I exis' a-an' now you're c-confused..."
"That's not your fault 'Pexy. Nothing was." Zenex moved closer, and Apex didn't back away this time. "You didn't do anything wrong."
"Y-Yes I did... i's my faul'...you an' Flu'erwings would be okay wi'ou' me, a-an' she wouldn' be jealous of t-the Lil' Fangs, a-an' you'd s'ill be happy... this is all my faul'..."
"'Pexy, no one can blame you for falling in love."
Apex stared at him. Zenex took the opportunity to hug him gently.
"I love you too." Zenex whispered, kissing his cheek gently. "B-But Flutterwings needs me... and you need me..."
Apex hugged back tightly. Zenex nuzzled him, then pulled away from the hug and crawled out from under the bed.
"I don't know what to do 'Pexy...but know that no matter what, I'll always love you. I love Flutters, and I love you. And it's okay." Zenex told him, before straightening up and trotting out of the room.
Apex crawled back out from under the bed, grabbing Blizzard and one other thing, curling up on the floor, staring at the bear...and a small flag striped in the colors of the rainbow. Apex hugged the flag tightly, tying it around Blizzard's neck like a cape. He then closed his eyes and curled up, drinking in a bit of his own misery. Bitter like charcoal, but he couldn't will himself to care very much.
