The Foundations of Something New. (Chapter 114 of Long Haul is out!) · 9:28pm Mar 5th, 2021
Howdy there everyone! It's a new month, and that means it's once again time for yet another new chapter of Long Haul. Which, to exactly nobody's surprise, is already up for you to go dive into! So sit back, relax with a hot mug of something tasty, and feel free to get lost in the story again. If that's all you're here for, you know the drill, this is pretty much the end of the relevant information for the story. Down below however, I wanted to go into something that might have implications on future stories and the like, though might be controversial to some. So if you're up for that, and believe me, it's a long one, then feel free to keep on reading.
So, about the elephant in the room. Gen 5 was announced last week, and oh boy, it sure looks like... something. I don't know about all of you, but I'm still not sure how I feel about the 3D style of it, but... color me optimistic. It's easy to jump to conclusions, but take a step back and really think for a moment. In truth, it's hard to make any sort of informed judgement on the series before we actually get to see more of it than a 15 second teaser and some promotional shots.
However, I do want to talk about something we do know about Gen 5. This is going to be the first MLP series bent to catch our eyes and ears from the start. Hasbro stumbled into greatness with Friendship is Magic, not realizing just how big it could be if tailored right. Unknowingly, they had an equation for a show that appealed to everyone, and I'm 100% certain that they haven't forgotten that. Gen 5, while it will be much different in many ways from the colorful cartoon some of us have spent nearly a decade enjoying, I'm not sure it will be allover that much different where it counts. Here me out.
What we're going to see when this series launches is going to be a flurry of people complaining how this isn't MLP, when what they mean is that it's not Friendship is Magic. But FiM was hardly anything special to people with the first few episodes. I mean, outside of the series opener, the first few episodes were, and still are, hardly anyone's favorites compared to episodes in season 2 and beyond. Even after that, remember the end of Season 3, and how many thought 'Princess Twilight' had ruined the series? Now it hardly seems like the disaster it was painted to be back in the day. Hell, the first showing of the School Six didn't really go over well because people were afraid it would then put the Main Six solely in the background for the final two seasons.
All I'm saying is that while people are entirely free to speculate and comment on Gen 5, just remember that FiM was never meant to be what it was. FiM was a happy accident that you know deep down that Hasbro is going to try it's hardest to not screw up with this new series. So while the first half of it's first season may not be the best Gen 5 will have to offer over it's lifetime, it still deserves a fair shake from all of us. And knowing how well the crew catered and adapted to us over the entirety of FiM, I'm optimistic that we'll see some pretty great stuff from this new series. And of course, if anything I'm certain that we'll see some fairly unique adaptions to FoE from this, and that I can't wait to see.
Anyway, that's pretty much it for this blog post. As you've come to expect, feel free to read the new installment of Night Flight's adventure and return again at the beginning next month for yet another new chapter and post! Until then, take care, stay COVID safe, and relax, because Gen 5 coming isn't the end of the world. In fact, it could be the beginning of something fantastic. Take care everyone, and I'll see you all right back here, next time.
Thanks for the new chapter and your thoughts on Gen5. Personally, I cannot wait for Gen5. It will be a change and I am hoping that there will be a lot of hidden references to keep the Gen4 fans on their toes.
I have all the episodes of Pony Life but have maybe watched three or four. That was just a bit of bubblegum to spin of some toys and keep ponies on peoples minds.
