Happy Lunar New Year! · 3:29am Feb 13th, 2021
Hello everyone! Sorry it's taken this late for me to say this, but Happy Lunar New Year!
The Lunar New Year (Also Called the Chinese New Year, or the Chinese Spring Festival) Is the Celebration of the end of Winter and the Beginning of Spring for many East Asian Countries including (But not limited to) China, South Korea, and Vietnam.
Fun Fact: while Western Civilization uses the Gregorian Calendar, which marks its days using only the Earth's revolution around the Sun, Eastern Asian Countries use the the LuniSolar (or Lunar) Eastern Calendar which uses both the Earth's Revolution and the Phases of the Moon; this mixed focus on the Cycles of the Sun & Moon means Months of the Eastern Calendar can have a different number of Days, and even have extra months. Also, according to the Lunar Calendar the new year always starts on a New Moon.
The one tradition the Lunar New Year is most famous for is that it is represented by one of Twelve Animals. This year is the Year of the Ox.
