The stock market as a source of internet excitement? · 12:56am Jan 28th, 2021

I'm not exactly versed in the stock market, but I've figured this GameStop thing is rich people getting pissed because a horde of average joes on Reddit figured out how to play their market manipulation game, and their hedge funds are being wiped out in a once-in-a-lifetime play at some forced wealth redistribution.

I only have one thing to say to that.

Go Reddit!

What is really amusing is, when the SEC gets done with that "random reddit group" most of them will end up owning 100's of thousands in taxes, another half to one million in fines, and 3-5 years in jail... and I approve 100% of that.

GameStop thing?

Like I said, I'm not versed in the stock market, but the latest I've read is that it's really unclear whether what WSB did was illegal.

Whatever makes the rich bleed, I'm all for, legal or otherwise.

If a bunch of people just invest to make a stock go big I don’t se anything wrong with that that sounds like fair game,

That’s how the rich Wall Street guys fuck Over people anyway right ?

That's my impression.

At first and second glance, this looks like a lot of poor people playing a rich person's game, and winning for the time being.

If it is illegal then technically wouldn't that mean the rich ones who are getting angry over this also would in turn be in very big trouble as that would imply the Redditors are doing exactly what the rich have been for years yet haven't been Busted properly and thus very much vulnerable to the same punishment if not worse to the law they're been breaking? Would be in a way very karmatic if so.

If the last 15 years of adulthood, and the last four years especially, have taught me anything, it's that the 1% live by 'rules for thee, not for me' relatively successfully. I find that reprehensible, which is why I'm loving what is happening right now.

Fair point and I agree, I'm all for the 1% getting screwed over hard. Especially by their own rules backfiring on them.

If the 1% convince the government to agree what reddit did was illegal and then the government uses the same logic to go after the hedge fund morons as Well I'll laugh even harder
