I've made a few minor changes and hopefully found all the wrong words, spelling errors, and formatting issues.
The biggest formatting issue I seem to have is butting quoted text against quoted text with not but a space between. Example: "text" "text"
All within the same paragraph. This is actually fairly common among writers who have had no formal writing classes and a lot of people do it. It's so common it used to be seen as a writing style. Writing like this does not make the document unreadable so long as new speakers always get a new paragraph.
Breaking myself of my quote habit hasn't been easy. The one reference I found that actually addressed this suggested using a dash where the focus changes but it's not a big enough change to warrant a new paragraph. I'll also use dashes in lieu of individual quotes coming from a group of background characters where the group is treated as the individual.
I'm a hybrid formatting style where abbreviations do not have a full stop when it's part of a sentence. The absence of a full stop on an abbreviation is from the English standard style as opposed to the American standard style. I started doing it because my word processor defaults to an International style that tends to favor the English style. The reason I'm still doing it that way is that the auto reader has issues with the full stop. Dropping the full stop is just kinder to people who must use an auto reader.
Some of my spelling irregularities may also be due to which spell checker I use. The built-in one for Foxfire got set to English standard spellings and I haven't figured out how to switch it. Doing everything in English standard would likely drive some people nuts because quote marks for quotes and quotes within quotes get reversed. Yes, sometimes wrong words get inserted.
Comments will be off on my stories for the foreseeable future. Calling people out for the same thing we ourselves are guilty of is something I try to refrain from.
Right now everything is in limbo because someone thinks it's unreadable.
