Chapter 3 Part 5 Up! (Jan 12th) · 1:15am Jan 13th, 2021

Chapter Three Part Five is now up. Our third investigation. This one was a bit harder for me to write than the first two. As the cases become more complicated, writing these investigations becomes more complicated too, so I don’t give away certain things. Keep in mind: not everything is as obvious as it seems. One of these two murders is easier to solve than the other, yes, but it’s not as easy as it might first appear.

In other news: Chapter Five’s trial is well under way. I’ve just finished the first part and started on the second. Like Chapter Four’s trial, this one is proving rather difficult to write. It’s not just because of the case itself, it’s because I have fewer people to write for. I didn’t realize it when I was writing the earlier trials, but the more people you have, the more variety in both people able to speak and questions able to be asked. In other words, it’s easier to write a trial with ten or twelve people than with a… smaller number. It’s perhaps the only part of this story I wish I had a second writer working with me to help me shore things up. But I’m figuring it out. It’s just slower progress.

What’s funny was I expected writing a trial with fewer people would be the easier task, since in the past when writing stories I have had issues handling multiple characters in one scene. And yet, surprise surprise, it was much easier with more people. And I miss writing a few of the characters I killed off early.

Chapter Five also has something about it that I’m worried people aren’t going to like. I’m hoping it’ll be well received, but... as I’ve mentioned before, I had to reorganize my story. And while one part of Chapter Five’s plan stayed perfectly intact (and arguably works better in some ways) the other part changed so much I’m worried people will reject it. Why am I saying this now, instead of waiting? Because I am an anxious girl. Major, major anxiety, all the time. I worry a lot more about what people think about my stories than I sometimes seem to. So I’m venting here. Helps me cope.

Anyways, enjoy the part, and await the first part of the trial on Saturday. This one’s going to be fun.

I feel the exact opposite when it comes to writing dialouge with more people vs less people. With more people I find it hard to remember to include everyone, and feel like I constantly forget who is where and what is said by whom, which leaves me struggling to depict the scene as a whole well.

Actually, now that I think about it... almost every scene I have written in the last year that has dialouge has involved less than four characters. I can only think of one that has more than four, at any rate...

Good luck though! Love the work, and can't wait to dive into Chapter 3 once it's all available.

Thank you, and hopefully once it is ready, you enjoy it.

Re dialogue: I used to have that same problem. Maybe it's the DR setting but something about this story has made including everyone a lot easier. Perhaps because I'm able to visualize, say, everyone standing at their podiums. And then I find it's just as easy when they're not in the courtroom. So it's probably the setting.

What I find makes it easier to track who says what is to picture it visually. I try to SEE the scenes before I write them, and then transcribe it. Like I'm filming a video and then novelizing it.

In any event, I would like to wish you much luck with your future work as well.

Hey don’t stress. I know how you feel. I myself am an anxious girl. I overthink everything and I doubt myself too much. Don’t worry. I love your story, and I’ll support you all the way.
