Melody Headcanons: EqG Thorax, Pharynx, and Ocellus · 4:41am Jan 11th, 2021

This is my theory on the location and backstory of Equestria Girls, Thorax, Pharynx, and Ocellus (and Apex). It's a bit of a long story, so buckle up.

Firstly, let me start out with these two important things: every single one of the four has a Japanese heritage, and are Synesthetes, and a part of their Synesthesia gives them the ability to see emotions as colors, along with the personal colors of each specific person. This information is not necessarily relevant to the backstory, but it's worth knowing. Anyway, on with the backstory!

Pharynx Elytron was born first out of the group. He and his younger brother, Thorax Glyder, were born to Metamorphosis Gossama and Velia Viceroy within two years of each other. As children, they were very close, and shared the same group of friends; Ember Jiéshí, Smolder Dragonwing, Tempest Shadow, Ocellus Iris, Silverstream, Terramar, Yona, Sandbar, Gallus, Gilda, and Gabby. The two brothers were especially close with Ocellus, Smolder, Ember, and Tempest.

Pharynx and Thorax had a relatively happy childhood. Their mother didn't really like them, but their father loved them very much. Then, one day, when Pharynx was seven and Thorax was five, Metamorphosis left. It was very sudden, he merely left a note for his boys, telling them that he was sorry, he was leaving to try and find a better life for them in another town. He begged his "Dark Warrior" and "Love Bug" to understand, and promised he'd come back. But though his words provided comfort, Pharynx was never the same again. He couldn't believe his father would leave them alone with their mother.

It turned out he was right to be upset at his father. Their mother only got worse when he left. Pharynx protected his little brother as best as he could, taking the blame for many things that his brother accidentally caused. Including when Thorax took some of their mother's diamond jewelry and turned them into two necklaces, each with three diamonds. Pharynx was mad he had to take the blame for taking the jewelry, and refused when Thorax asked him to wear one of the necklaces, like he wore his own. But eventually, Pharynx began wearing his necklace too. He loved his brother enough to go along with his "brother-bond necklaces".

Then, when Pharynx was eight, Velia took him and Thorax to a mansion out in the country. It was a secret spy center for children. They would train there, and go on missions that only a child could complete without arousing suspicion. However, while Pharynx excelled, Thorax struggled, and Pharynx would still only talk to Thorax. No mentor in the mansion would agree to train them. Until they brought in someone for the greater agency they trusted to train them well. The reason why? She was their best agent. And their Aunt.

So, Agent Chrysalis arrived at the mansion to teach her nephews. She immediately bonded with them, recognizing Pharynx's natural abilities and both of their intelligence. Chrysalis was the only trainer who did not fail, even getting Thorax to learn self defense. She also taught them in academic classes, and even though the agency refused to send them to a real school, she would sneak them out to join their friends. Though throughout their training Pharynx constantly tried to find a way to get them out of the mansion.

Soon, Ocellus Iris joined the brothers. Her parents had always been bad at raising her and her younger siblings. When they heard what Velia had done, they followed her example. Ocellus' siblings were sent away to a different orphanage, they didn't show "promise" like Ocellus. Pharynx and Thorax did their best to comfort her, and she became like a sister to them. Pharynx didn't warm to this idea like Thorax did at first, but eventually, he became like her older brother.

Lastly came Apex Cornea. He arrived when Pharynx was fifteen, left in a box with Chrysalis and Pharynx by Velia. They were unaware what she was bringing them, and didn't realize it was a baby until Chrysalis opened the box. Pharynx had become very closed off from anyone except Thorax, Ocellus, and Chrysalis, and when he realized exactly where the baby had come from. He rejected Apex at first, until Chrysalis gave him a very stern talking to. He agreed to treat Apex as his own brother, even if they were only half-brothers.

All four became one big family, then, when Pharynx turned eighteen, things changed. Chrysalis got word that within the next week, Pharynx would be instructed to report to the main corporation, where Chrysalis originally worked. Hunt. Infiltrate. Verify. Export. HIVE. Pharynx, having overheard the conversation between Chrysalis and the head of the mansion, decided to put his finalized escape plan into effect. Chrysalis heard him talking with Ocellus and Thorax, telling them to pack light, and decided on what to do. She helped them escape.

Chrysalis sent them off, setting them up with enough money to rent an apartment and buy food for a couple months. And that's exactly what they did. Pharynx, as the oldest, took responsibility over them, sending Ocellus and Thorax to school. Then, Tempest's father kicked her out of the house, and Ember's father died. Both of their mothers had died when the two were young, leaving the two homeless. Pharynx, Thorax, and Ocellus were more than willing to let them stay in their apartment with them, and though the two felt they needed to repay the siblings, they were reassured that it wasn't necessary.

Meanwhile, Pharynx had set himself up in online college, so he could stay with Apex, who was now five. He didn't need to take any college courses, as he was easily smart enough to do most well-paying jobs, but he was just biding his time. Pharynx's real dream was to start up a new spy agency. One that only worked on the side of good. The group of now six spent more time with their friends, and were quite content with their lives as they were. Then, something changed. Metamorphosis came home.

Metamorphosis had to go to another city to find work, as Velia had turned any companies looking for his experience against him. Metamorphosis sought out his sister, Chrysalis, first, and she told him about what had happened to his sons. Shocked, Metamorphosis searched for them frantically, finally spotting Thorax leaving Hivelair High School with Tempest and Ember one day. From there, he used his old skills to find where he was living. One morning, he approached Pharynx as he left the apartment for a morning jog. Pharynx was startled to see his father, and when Thorax noticed he hadn't left, followed him outside. Metamorphosis greeted his son, and Thorax immediately ran to him.

Metamorphosis, after discovering where his sons were living, offered for them to come and stay at his new house, which was Chrysalis' old home from before she moved. While Thorax, Ocellus, Ember, Tempest, and even Apex were ready to agree, Pharynx remained unsure. He didn't trust Metamorphosis after what had happened the last time they were a family. But he wanted the best for his siblings and friends, so he agreed. Metamorphosis managed to convince him, in time, that he was not going to leave again. Pharynx accepted Metamorphosis back into his life, and Metamorphosis adopted Ocellus and Apex as his children. The family then went on to live happily.
