Chapter 12 is up and there's a new member for the BFF's! · 8:32pm Jan 3rd, 2021
Happy New Year everypony! This chapter was supposed to be my Hearth's Warming gift for those following this story but my editor's computer went 'kaboom' and was unable to get to chapter 12 until this week. I've been busy in the mean time working on three other favorite stories so I can post a first chapter for two of them and the next chapter to my Hearth's Warming story too. These have been on hold as the Wonderbolt Academy story seemed to take on a life of it own; unfolding in unexpected and exciting ways to explore more of the character backgrounds and the school as well. It's been exciting and challenging to write it all down.
I'm close to getting the next chapter to my editor for the Hearth's Warming story and really wanted it to be up in time for the holidays but it just got delayed more. I kept going back over it, driving myself a little nutty at keeping track of so many characters, where they are in the story and moving from each character's perspective and not getting lost. 'The Apple-Pie Hubbub' story that I've been plunking away on in between waits for my editor to send back an edited chapter has a 'lead in' from the Hearth's Warming story that I had envisioned happening and it made for a nice moment of CONTINUITY in my storytelling attempts.
I have the story down to about 10k words, still too long for the 8500 limit for the 'write and episode' writing group and the cuts I made had me in tears because there were parts that made the story more endearing and relatable for some readers. But, as my editor likes to point out to me; 'You're too long winded! You take 3 pages to write what could be said in just 1 page. You've got to get better at getting the story's point across more quickly and with fewer words.' I will have to make yet more cuts to the story and/or make the scenes shorter if I want to keep them. I really don't know how the writers for MLP could do this in 22 minutes of animation.
