    BABSCon 2024

    Hi y'all, sorry I've been dead on this site for a while, but for any of those who are still out there...I will once again be at BABSCon 2024 in Burlingame, CA, from Mar 29 to 31!

    And I'll likely be in my Twilight or Opaline cosplay. Hope to see y'all there!

🎊 Happy New Year 2021🎊 · 9:41pm Dec 31st, 2020

In another ten years time
Who can say what we'll find
What lies waiting down the line

Fun history lesson: this 1980 song, by the Swedish band ABBA, is actually a very popular hit in Vietnam.

Vietnam in the 80s was quite isolated from the Western World due to communist rule and the Cold War. One of the few Western countries that retained diplomatic relations with Vietnam was Sweden, who has a long history of non-alignment. Swedish expats were one of the few Western foreigners in Vietnam at the time. They brought with them Swedish music, including ABBA.

Hence, ABBA was one of Vietnam's few exposures to Western culture. Tet (the Vietnamese New Year), is a major holiday. Few Vietnamese people were fluent in English or Swedish at the time, but they understood "Happy New Year". So they played this song every year during New Year celebrations. The rest is history.

You as well!
:heart::twilightsmile::heart:

They have a new album, coming this November. It's called Voyage.

I listened to their new songs on YouTube. While they pale in comparison to their earlier hits, I'm just glad that they're still making music and maintaining their popularity in their 70s. Few pop stars can achieve that.
