random half question half rant...
Y'all ever look deeper into lore for a series, or examine a detailed map or some semblance of a map because you want to do your research and "get it all right", only to immediately regret it because it ruins all the ideas you had for a story you wanted to write?
EDIT: no, this doesn't have to do with Kafer's story, it has more to do with my planned Fallout Equestria fic.
Hm... makes sense. I think.
Specifically within this fandom? One or twice, though I've since circumvented both.
Long story short: a key plot point in one of my planned stories was supposed to be the long distance between two locales. Then I actually looked at a map and realized they were literally right next to each other.

oh I feel that, I feel that.
my situation was the literal vice versa of yours. Had an idea for a location in the planned FoE fic with a location and region I collaborated with a friend to make. We had an anomalous location within based on a canon location, thinking the canon location was close to the city in the general region. Turns out the "anomalous location's" canon counterpart is on opposite sides of the hemisphere from where the region we brainstormed up is supposed to be.
