Blog: Spent this morning spinning up a tragic/sweet StarMaud story idea

A lot of cool ideas and themes kept popping up. I have no idea why it is this series that is giving me so many ideas. I normally only love cool adult fancy person shows like Mr. Robot which explore cool ideas and also have canon lesbian relationships that are very complicated and interesting but it is this cartoon about talking ponies with no more than two canon lesbian ships that are both about background characters that grabs me.

Ugh.

Oh, by the way, something that just now occurred to me: while I've enjoyed your stories I've read so far (keep meaning to get to more, other things keep coming up, argh...) for what they are, it's also nice that you're here. As I recall, you mentioned you didn't even get into the show until pandemic quarantine. After the show ended, after the last Bronycon, etc. -- and yet, in addition to long-timers like me (and many others who, you know, have actually written and published a lot), we can still have people like you roar onto the scene and start publishing excellent horsewords. While I already wasn't one of the "The fandom is dooooooooomed!" people, this seems auspicious. :)
(And I'm pretty sure I said it before somewhere, but just in case, welcome!)

(What's the other canon lesbian ship besides LyraBon you mean, by the way? I'm not at present remembering any others that were given a similar level of confirmation in the show.)

Given the last episode it's hard for me to not see Appledash (and Cheesepie and Fluttercord) as canon, and I don't even ship Appledash personally.

Ditto for Rarijack in EqG.

Oh right, AppleDash is canon too! So one main and two background, plus the ones that are canon in my head like StarMaud and RariJack (wow we have no ships in common lol)

Scootaloo's "aunts"! Of course both that one and Future AppleDash are still technically ambiguous to about the same degree, but it's about as confirmed without a kiss (which we get 0 of) or a wedding ring coming out (a split-second in a background shot but I replay that scene every day).

Oh, yes, there are definitely some strong implications, but... well, I suppose the boundary between that and "canon" is fuzzy.

(As for EQG, so I've heard, but it's so far still one of those things where I have significant experience with fanfiction of the source but not actually much direct experience with the source itself.)

Ah, right, them! And, yeah, see above about fuzzy boundaries, though in this case it'd just slipped my mind they existed, I'm afraid. I think I recall hearing it was less ambiguous in the comics, where they first showed up? But I've not read those myself.

edit: ...Also, huh. I hadn't noticed before, but looking at that newspaper, the positioning of the pictures makes it look rather like Chrysalis is lunging for the newlyweds. I wonder if that was deliberate?
