    Ok so, as you know the character Peter has a brother in the navy and the fact that the three main characters are about to board a ship to Deutschland. Do you think the ships should be sail ships or pre- WWI style ships- being steam ships. Either way works.

I made mine fit the mid-19th century ironclad aesthetic. We know from the show that pegasi can generate wind, so I think sails are very reasonable. But I am also writing for the Fallout: Equestria universe where coal is a major resource, hence the combo steam-sail for the ships. I think you can't go wrong with sail and some steam based on the time period you are basing your story on. Here is a sketch of what I am referring to:
