Introducing Morning Glisten · 11:50pm Oct 20th, 2020
Acts of Love is around the corner, and it introduces a very important new character to the story. I have some art of her that I wanted to show off, as well as introduce who she is to you a little, but this does involve spoilers for the story. Granted, it's spoilers that you'll figure out in the firstchapter, or probably even in the story's description, but I wanted to give the forewarning that this blog has spoilers.
I'm just gonna jump right into the spoiler now. Who We Become is a next gen. See, I've never liked next gens (with a few exceptions). They introduce a bunch of characters I don't know while not usually explaining the story of the characters I care about and shoving said cared about characters aside in favor of their kids. So I thought, well, why don't I do one I'd like? So my first thought was well I have to tell the parents' stories. I need to know how they get together, I need to know who has kids with whom, who doesn't have kids at all, and why. And with that, I can keep them relevant. By telling their stories, I know how to turn them into an active supporting cast to the main characters, their children.
So I came up with a three phase plan. Phase One is about the parents. It starts with them getting together (until I made Looking Glass start with Sunset's origins lol, but the initial plan was to start with Inner Strength), and it ends with them raising kids while still being about them as parents and soft transitioning into their kids' lives. We're still in Phase One, but we're getting to the end of it. On Sunday I'll post the first chapter of Acts of Love, which introduces the first next gen character. There are one or two more stories of mid to long length (haven't outlined them yet, dunno how long they'll be or even whether it'll wind up being one or two fics). That'll wrap up Phase One.
People who don't like next gens should stick with that much. If you're caught up on WWB, you're already a million freaking words into this, see that through. Even when there's kids, it'll have a high focus on their parents. Each phase is meant to be a self contained story anyway, so ending at the end of Phase One will give you a good stopping point. Phase Two will begin the shift while actually remaining focused on their parents. It's essentially one long event that in universe takes several months and like five or six stories to tell, and it'll mark the changing of hands. Equestria and its future will be in the kids' (the oldest of whom will be young adults by this point) control from there on out. This is the fucking changeling story that I've been building up to since Inner Strength because I didn't know how to pace a plot when I started this lmao.
Phase Three will then be primarily about the kids dealing with the after effects of Phase Two. By this point we're in full on next gen mode, the main characters are going to be the next gen kids who will be adults by now. The current cast off adults will still be around and they'll play prominent roles in supporting positions, but they'll have figured out their shit and be settled in for the most part; they don't have as much left to learn, and as such they won't be the core cast any longer.
After Phase Three, I retire from this series. I hope to someday read someone building on it, I plan to leave some building blocks for future stories. Not so much lose ends that need to be tied up, but just hints at what could happen so other authors can play with it if they want. This is years in the future though, so who knows what'll happen lol
But you also came here for art. And so allow me to introduce to you who our main character is! I think with the fact this is a next gen character and is the main character of the whole series, you can all guess who her moms are. This is Morning Glisten, our heroine that you'll get to meet in Acts of Love!
(art by Happypacca)
She has her own character tag on Manebooru with some more images, and I've hosted a ton of other Who We Become art over there (including fifteen that I just posted today that relate to Acts of Love in some way or other!)
This is the best way to write nextgen stuff imo. It's my approach too!
Also, I have to ask: Is Morning Glisten a TwiShy kid biologically or a Twishyset kid (biologically)? If the latter, how's that one work?

Hell yeah next gen buddies!
And neither, she's an adopted kid
