Well, this week's been pretty awful as far as weeks go. · 6:41am Oct 8th, 2020
'Cause this week's the week where my dog went blind.
We've scheduled an appointment with the vet to see what's wrong with his eyes. Just based on how they look right now, it seems like he's developed cataracts. To be honest, now that I think of it, the warning signs were showing up for a little while already. He was tripping on the stairs a lot more often than before, for one, and he started bumping into people and furniture a lot more often as well.
But yeah. If he does have cataracts, then our options are to either let him stay blind forever, or cough up some $2500-4000 USD to pay for his surgery to remove them. Not exactly the greatest thing to have happen in the middle of a pandemic with an unstable economy.
Hoo boy.
I'll post another blog after next week's visit to the vet. It was the only time they had open for us to schedule an appointment, so I'll have to keep on leading him around the house for the next half a week or so.
I'm sorry to hear that. I guess you get to be his seeing eye human, at least for now.
Of course, dogs get by a fair amount on scent. I wonder if there's anything you can do to sort of help him find things by smell a bit, too?

Maybe. For now, I've just been training him to follow my voice.
My dog's going through the same thing and we've been told that It's a good idea to leave furniture where it is as they'll be able to identify and navigate their way through scent and memory.
Another idea was to cut up a foam pool noodle and wrap on corners and wall/furniture edges where the dog can bump into and essentially child proof the house for them
Hope things get better for you, mate
