To be honest, it doesn't really surprise me because the franchise has been changing over time. Each decade has different versions of their series and movies and one should not expect that their favourite characters are going to appear all the time. Since Pinkie Pie is the mascot for G4, there's going to be a different pony that will become the mascot for G5.
I think it's good they'll have a new lead cast. It allows them to start afresh without G5 being endlessly compared to G4.
I'm fine with it, one thing I dislike about the Transformers franchise is that they always rehash the Optimus/Megatron/Starscream stuff. (Wish that Rodimus and Galvatron were explored more, or that more series tried stuff like Beast Wars.)
I just hope it stays in the same universe, with brand new characters taking the center stage. Here to crossing my fingers that grogar the REAL grogar show as a major big bad villain that will last the entire seasons. And this with no bias whatsoever on hoping for that certain mare to be free so they can be in the show. Nope sirry no foul play of judgment here.

Speaking of which, Grogar appeared way back in G1 in a four-part episode that premiered in 1992.
