Turning Gears, looking for feedback/interest · 12:46am Aug 18th, 2020
So I have been jotting some notes down and working on the outline of what I am currently calling " Gods and Monsters." That could change. Incarnate was originally called Dichotomy but I didn't feel it fit the story as well.
Anyhow, here's the pitch I have so far.
200 years have passed since the mirror's restoration. Sunset Shimmer has continued to wander the Earth in a self imposed exile, but then a visitor in a dream warns her of the impending doom of Equestria. Meanwhile, Princess Twilight has ruled as the sole monarch from the Canterlot throne for two centuries and while outwardly it appears she has done so with grace and and ease not all is as it appears within the Royal Family.
Questions? Comments?
I admit I would love to read a sequel to Incarnate, albeit I’m reserved in regards to the 200 years time jump. Nothing wrong with that story-wise, it’s the setting. Does not bode well for my never-ending need for good and happy SunLight stories though. Sounds a bit heavy on the ol’ vanitas motif, if I dare to assume with the little information I can pry from the pitch. Not that it would be uncalled for, seeing as Celestia basically foreshadowed the issue.
Apart from that, seems like a solid foundation to me. Certainly has enough room for events and history, with some science fiction elements thrown in. Unless this version of humankind has a similar tendency to screw itself over. Not sure about the dream visitor trope though. I know there’s Luna and it comes down on how it’s incorporated; heck, it’s probably a minor detail in the end. Just feels somewhat like a generic adventure plot hook.
I could do some filler stories, shorter ones of Sunset and Twilight that fill the gap if the come to mind. Mostly the gap is necessary because I currently imagine them having a fairly normal family life over the next many years.
As far as the sequel it would be darker and heavier, taking nearly entirely in Equestria and diving head first into what would become ancient pre-equestrian lore and myth. I know some of it will be "done before". But hopefully I can make it interesting and do justice to both the canon characters and the new ones I'd have to introduce.

I sure hope they live a good normal family life and having some episodes about them if appropriate would certainly be enjoyable, yes. I'm more concerned about the fact that only one of them has longevity and will be forced to witness her loved ones slowly wither away and perish, repeating this cycle in perpetuity. This may be part of the package and totally makes sense, not going to argue here. Just not the most thrilling thing I can imagine. However, this is a matter of personal taste.
