COVID-19 made a brony out of me! · 3:34pm Aug 13th, 2020
Clickbait machine goes "brrrrr" or however that meme goes.
All joking aside it's actually sorta, kinda true. I'm writing this all down more for myself to save for posterity than anything else, but if, for whatever reason, you're curious how someone ended up becoming a brony in 2020, then strap yourself in and prepare for a ride most underwhelming!
Still here? Okay then, heeeeere goes!
With the whole world on fire, ravaged by plague and generally circling the proverbial drain, combined with growing worry for my American friends, I noticed my mental health was starting to fray. Badly. I needed a distraction, something fun and light with which to keep my thoughts away from how absolutely crappy everything is.
That's when I remembered it. I had watched the first... Two? Three? Seasons of MLP quite some time ago, just to see what all the fuss was about. Back then I concluded that yeah, I get why people like the show. Good music, decent humor that works even for adults and life lessons that are valuable to kids (and let's face it... There are a ton of adults in the world who could learn a thing or three from the show, too!)
So anyway! Much to my delight I found no less than eight seasons of the show on Netflix and thus started one hell of a binge. It's easy to do when you're unemployed and what few social events you have are completely and thoroughly cancelled. The more I watched, the more invested I got in both the story and the characters. Having devoured everything Netflix had to offer, I simply had to watch the final season, so of course I found a way to get my grubby hands on it and summarily devoured that, too. Heck, I even ended up going through all the EG content after some initial apprehension!
Anyway... Somewhere along the line I wanted to listen to one of the songs from the show and decided to search for it on YouTube. Little did I know that particular rabbit hole would lead me into a wealth of gorgeous musical and animation content. Like, damn, the MLP fandom has some seriously talented musicians in their ranks! Jyc Row, Princewhateverer, P@D, 4everfreebrony just to mention but a few of the ones I stumbled upon and I... Was hooked.
Not long after that I found my way to canterlotcomics and, eventually... Here. (So. Many. Lovely stories to read! Aaaaaah!)
Where was I? Ah yes! I've been writing for the past... 15 years now? Vast majority of it has been furry smut literature but I hit a creative wall in my writing some three years ago...
And then came this damn show about magical, friendly pastel ponies. Suddenly: BOOM! My mind is positively brimming with inspiration and ideas, stories clawing at my skull, demanding to be let out and put into writing. So here I am: a furry-come-brony with too much time on his hands and some yarns to spin.
My first pony story ended up becoming a bit of a behemoth, so it will take some time before it's ready to be posted here (as I'm writing this, chapter one is being proofread.) I guess I'll work on the later chapters while I'm at it and maybe toss in some shorter fics here and there. And keep on reading, of course.
So uhh... Yeah, that's about it. Told you it would be an underwhelming tale ;P
Well, welcome to the fandom! Hope you enjoy your stay!
:)
I pretty much went through the exact same thing you did!
Only, I hadn’t watched the show at all beforehand, only heard of it. So after putting it off for so long I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about.
I binged through the whole show in about 2 to 3 weeks!
