My Top 10 Least Favorite MLP:FiM characters · 12:43am Aug 11th, 2020
Hey guys. Even though I’m done writing stories on this site, I’m still more than willing to share some of my opinions, even ones that will surely make some people hate me.
Hence, I’m gonna share my ten least favorite characters on MLP:FiM.
However, before I do, there are some things I need to make clear.
First, I’m only taking into account their appearances on MLP:FiM, MLP: The Movie, or EqG. Any fanfics don’t count in swaying my decision
Second, villains aren’t immediately added or safe from the list. I’m taking into account their motivation, their plan of action, and how they went about said plan.
Finally, these are just my personal opinions that I know a lot of you are gonna disagree with. So all I ask is that you politely disagree instead of hating me in the comments
One last thing before I begin, I wanna share a dishonorable mention for this list:
The Cakes (the twins not included)
I dislike these two because if it’s not admonishing or putting up with Pinkie and taking care of their children, these two have no impact on the show whatsoever. Other than one or two episodes lost, the show would literally be the exact same without them.
Finally, let’s get into number ten
#10
My tenth least favorite character is Princess Celestia herself. While I do admit that she has given Twilight some much needed guidance, that’s really all she does. The three times we see her in action are when she gets her ass kicked by Chrysalis, by Cozy Glow, and when she banishes her sister to the moon. She doesn’t do anything else that really impacts the show. The same argument could be made for Luna, but at least she got some character development. Celestia is a leader character that does nothing but spew exposition, and that is why she makes this list.
#9
I know some will fight me on this, but number nine for this list is Trixie. Sure, she has a few good and comedic moments, but other than that, she’s just a selfish pony. These include a needless feud with Discord while trying to stop Chrysalis, acting like her causing the map to disappear is Starlight’s fault and not even taking it seriously, and assuming Starlight will make her the Vice-Headmare while not having any of the requirements. Like I said, Trixie has some good and funny moments that kinda made me laugh, but there are plenty of other characters on the show I can turn to for that. Not to mention, her voice is really obnoxious.
#8
Told you villains weren’t safe from the list because number eight is Adagio Dazzle from Rainbow Rocks. I’m pretty sure everyone knows someone like this. I try not to take into account voice acting, but every time Adagio’s voice is heard, I groan from how monotone it is. It doesn’t help that she’s literally a rebel without a cause. She’s always putting others, including her sisters, down for no reason other than she needs to feel superior. At least, I think that’s why. We know next to nothing about her. A good villain should have a good backstory, like Starlight or Nightmare Moon. All we know about Adagio is that she was a siren banished from her world.
#7
Speaking of almost everything I just said, number seven is Aria Blaze. Once again, I’m pretty sure everyone knows someone like this. However, for Adagio, one could argue she’s a bitch because she has to put up with her sisters. Aria is a bitch just for the sake of being a bitch. Her voice is even more obnoxious than Adagio’s as well, which is why I put her higher on this list.
#6
I don’t know why this character exists. Number six is Cranky Doodle Donkey. Sure, every cartoon has to have that one character that’s annoying to no end, but that’s usually a main antagonist, like Ducktales’s Flintheart Glomgold, or has a character rebound, like The Owl House’s Amity (if you haven’t seen that show, I highly suggest you check it out). Cranky Doodle is neither of these, and there’s no reason for him to be a character at all. In the three times we’ve seen him, he’s complaining about Pinkie’s friendliness, criticizing Pinkie about her ice cream, and griping about his wedding day. There’s just no good reason for that one.
#5
Pretty sure everyone expected these two to make the list: the Flim Flam brothers. These two characters had potential to be really likable, but the screen writers didn’t go for it. I had no problem with their first few appearanceS, but it was when they took advantage of Starswirl the Bearded’s nativity that sealed their place here. What really ticks me off about these two is that they literally pull a character three-sixty. First, they’re common con-artists, then they’re saying they’ll change their ways, then they go right back to being common drifters. Not to mention that whenever one of them talk, my eyes roll out of my head. Again, these two had potential, but they’re just so annoying.
#4
Coming in at number four is Sludge. A lot of you may have expected him to be higher on this list, but you’ll just have to wait and see those two. This guy is the lowest you can get when it comes to a con-artist. Sure, he only appeared in one episode, but he made such a huge impression in that one episode that I hate him. It doesn’t get much worse than pretending to be a child’s long-lost father to take advantage of him. Why Twilight, or anyone else for that matter, didn’t blast him beyond Kingdom Come will always be a mystery to me.
#3
Bet you forgot about Chancellor Neighsay until this moment. The last thing anyone wanted on this show which is supposed to be about friendship is a racist. Going over the Princess of Friendship’s head about running a school of friendship is enough to put him on this list alone. Sure he has a bit of a redemption in the Season 8 finale, but it’s never really acted upon after that. He literally even declined to do a background check on Flim and Flam just to spite Twilight.
#2
Cozy Glow is bad for so many reasons other than she’s a villain. The main reason I hate her is because her motivation to try to drain the world’s magic is because she’s a selfish brat. Literally nothing else. We’re not shown anything in her past that caused her to become a villain. All we’re given to work with is that she’s a villain, accept it. No motivation, no personal justification, no backstory, nothing. She, a filly, betrayed an entire kingdom, and expected to get away with it undetected for no clear reason. She appeared in two prior episodes, and that’s all. Not to mention, she’s annoying as hell.
#1
There’s a lot of examples of this in other shows, but no character with this characteristic drives me crazier than Spoiled Rich/Milk. The two episodes she’s in are spent literally just criticizing others. She’s the reason Diamond Tiara’s such a brat. She thinks all others beneath her and does nothing to prove it. It’s everything I don’t like about Trixie, but with no redeeming qualities.
And those are my ten least favorite characters in MLP:FiM. I know a lot of you will disagree with me in the comments, and that’s fine. In fact, I encourage you to share your opinions, whether it be on the list, or if it’s something I missed
Be good people
Good list, especially with Cozy Glow being rated so high. I don't get why people like her. It sucks that King Sombra was brought back in Season 9 but cast aside to keep her and the others around. It would've been far more interesting if she turned out to secretly be Queen Chrysalis or a villain from G1. (That second option is actually something I'm exploring in a later story.)
Donnnnn: I don't like Trixie.
Trixie fans: to battle!!
But seriously, with the exception of Trixie, not much for me to disagree with even if I wanted to. Although there are really very few characters I dislike. There are characters I might not care of or think are, at best, so-so to me, but few I dislike. Sludge, the Flim Flam brothers, and Spoiled Rich are three of the few I simply dislike.
Wow. Based on a previous blog you did i was expecting to see Pinkie Pie on this list.
For me, I wouldn’t say i had any real characters i hated, but the only two i felt weren’t executed as well as they could have were Flash Sentry and Timber Spruce. It felt like they were written to be purely love interests, not characters. Normally I wouldn’t really care if they were paired with some minor character we rarely saw, but instead they were paired with a main character

Like I said, that’s completely fine
Funny thing. Spoiled Rich isn’t one of my favorite characters either, and neither is Sludge. A couple other least favorite characters of mine are Lyra Heartstrings and Bon Bon.
I like this list. A good list for some of the characters I dislike as well
I give you a round of applause for including Chancellor Neighsay and Spoiled Rich in your list.
